That's utterly bizarre. First class breakfast is mostly about early-doors business travellers!

I'd more have expected breakfast to be served until 10am, with snacks thereafter. Possibly a typo?

Edit: the alcohol selection is beyond poor. Three wines (why three?) and an ale, no cider, no lager (surely this is by far the most popular alcoholic beverage?) and no spirits?

And very little of that offered last Saturday on Preston to Glasgow and return.

On Friday I received zilch on the 04:52 GLC - MAN and on the 10:xx MAN HUL I received a hot drink and a chocolate cake. Definitely nothing as advertised in their FC menu

Did the 06:12 Edinburgh to Preston on Thursday. Was offered a few drinks and some snacks. It appears to be true that hot food isn’t available until 10am.

Different first class menu for the 185 services which are on the Hull route

I have just tweeted them to ask why the 10am restriction. Will update this when I get a response

Interesting to hear of the hot options, so hopefully an improvement as long as things are offered as expected/advertised.

Seems strange as hot breakfast was available on the early northbound Anglo-Scottish services last week.

The comms sent out about the new First Class offer all state breakfast is served til 10am, so the website is likely to be an error.

Who have conspicuously disappeared post covid.

Customary to offer rose white red
and an ale, no cider, no lager (surely this is by far the most popular alcoholic beverage?) and no spirits?
The buffet offer is better - wine included, arguably.

Seemingly no catering in first class on the 1015 Manchester Victoria to Northallerton TPE working this morning (and onwards to Redcar). Not much heating either, never mind any eating.

See what's available, if anything, for the 1450 return trip towards Manchester, with the 1428 from Northallerton to Liverpool Lime Street having already been cancelled.

Quick update: No catering in first class on either the 1450 Northallerton to York (then Manchester Airport) or 1627 York to Manchester Victoria TPE services.

So, anyhoo, how do you readily determine whether a particular TPE service might just have catering on it?

You don't, you book a first class ticket expecting a drink and small nibbles (or nothing on the Huddersfield stoppers) and that way anything else is a bonus. The only way you can deal with exceptionally inconsistent service without being disappointed.

LNER now run about half of their trains with a crap first class offering, (and I don't care as much as to look for the guide and book a journey according to which has decent menus, that's a ridiculous reason for choosing a particular service) so I turn up with low expectations and it's a nice surprise if I'm on a train where they can be bothered to use the chefs. :)
