I've just been presented with an Orient Express Dinner Party kit and wanted to come up with a suitable railway themed menu (I'm catering for 4 rail enthusiasts).

Any ideas welcome apart from British Rail Sandwiches lol

The original, iconic Orient Express ceased operation in 2009. However, a private company, Belmond Limited restored it and it was renamed the Venice-Simplon Orient Express. It is currently operating as a private luxury train. It has the same London-Istanbul route.

The menu features exquisite dishes such as lobsters, duck, caviar, Sautéed potatoes, french cheese, beef fillet, sun-dried tomatoes, Sautéed fresh duck, and Sautéed lamb chops. Drinks include class Martinis, Agatha Christie cocktail, Laurent Perrier Rosé and of course, champagne. Desserts include lemon cake, caramel mousse, and many others.

Just describing it makes me want to head to Europe and ride it. Of course, only the elite members of society used it. Enjoy your party!

Luckily I was treated to a one way trip from London Victoria to Venice for my 30th by my now fiancee who proposed en-route.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Your fiancée proposed to you? Cool. It's even better being with a woman who is a rail enthusiast/;)

Took me a while to get the link between Marmalade and Paddington blindtraveller but using that a I could do a Marmalade Bread and Butter pudding.

Pity it's a 2 hour journey to my nearest Virgin station (Shrewsbury) to get Tilting Ale! ( Steak and Tilting Ale pie perhaps...)

Don't think I'd get away with Rustlers burgers lol

delay dinner for an hour, then cancel it due to technical difficulties and offer the guests a replacement burger from McDonalds? ;)

And make it more cost effective to have each course separately as opposed to the whole meal...

So the menu being...

Windsor Brown Soup - Apparently linked to British Railways so I'm told.

Steak and Tilting Ale Pie - Yes I went all the way to England for beer.

Marmalade Bread and butter pudding

And to accompany Bradshaws Pinot Noir!

I suppose you could have had Plum 'Duff' for pudding?, eaten with dessert 'spoons' of course. Drinks from a soda Syphon? 31 toffee apples for the starter?

Congrats on your engagement by the way :)

Sounds delicious. 1 question though, did you just approach a RSM of a VT Train at Shrewsbury or did you make a short journey on one and purchase during the trip?

Offer a complimentary small cold cup of tea at the end of the meal. Oh and if the dinner party is at the weekend say that your not doing the full menu and offer cheese and crackers instead(Like Richard Branson Pension Fund Express offer at weekends, oh sorry I meant virgin)
