It's the longest nerve wrecking lunch break I've ever had! Good luck![/QUOTE

I failed on possibly the easiest possible part, the phone directory as I clearly wasn't listening to what was being asked which I thought to be fair but got told I scored highly if all the other's, gutted. Oh well just have to wait another six months or so.

That's unlucky mate, I'm sure you will be successful next time. I do think one of the most important parts is totally understanding the tests, I got a bit confused on one of them but kept asking the guy to explain it until I got it.

So I failed on possibly the easiest part being just the phone directory. I knew once I turned the paper over that I had messed it up as I hadn't listened clearly to what was asked and the time was up whilst I was trying to play catch up. Got told I scored highly on everything else though, gutted is the feeling over something stupid. Oh well will just have to wait another six months.

You are certainly not the first one to fail on that part. I read somewhere on this forum a few weeks ago of somebody else who instead of focusing on the symbol (or symbols) paid too much attention to other bits that were insignificant.

Good luck for the next one though.

Hi all, just a quick query hoping you guys can help with. I applied to be a Thameslink trainee train driver recently, date closing was the 30th June. I've not heard anything back from them either way with regards to my application. Does this mean I failed in my application? Do they let you know if you failed the application process? Or is it just still too soon to hear back from them.
I hope this makes sense, and my apologies if ice posted this in the wrong place. Thanks in advance for your help.

No it doesn't mean you've failed, they take a while to go through all applications. No news is good news.

Don't expect to hear anything too soon. With my current application, I applied in December 2015 and heard nothing further until June 2016!

Of course, it varies from case-to-case!

Hi Dave999 and Validation, thanks for your prompt replies, I really appreciate it. 6 months before you heard anything Validation? Wow, in that case I might not hear anything until the new year! I guess I just need to be patient and keep my fingers crossed.

Hi had what seemed like the perfect interview, told I fitted the criteria perfectly, said all the right words and answered all the questions about the company. But got the unsuccessful email today.
Any ideas where I go from here? Be brutally honest - what are my chances in 6 months? Without sounding too confident ... I have no idea where I went wrong and obviously you don't get feedback telling why. Any advice please.

Sorry to hear of your news mate.

It might be a case of that no, you did absolutely nothing wrong and yes, said all the right things but unfortunately this time there were just others who performed better or slightly better fit the criteria.

If this was your first instance of failing part of the application then try not to get too disheartened. There seems to be a lot of people on here who have commented that they failed part of their application process but smashed it second time round. Its very difficult to offer you advice when only you know what occured during your interview!

Just wait your 6 months and when the opportunity presents itself apply again, best of luck to you.

I've read so many different threads. Can someone clarify. It's only the interview stage I'm enquiring about: I have been unsuccessful first time so if I am unsuccessful again - with GTR - does that mean I have lost any chances with any other TOC?

MEN are you talking about the MMI or driver manager interview?

The MMI is like a test and there are certain criteria to hit and you have 2 chances to pass it - like all the other tests during the recuritment process.

With the driver manager interview it can be more subjective - I feel what they want from you varies form TOC to TOC and interviewer to interviewer so it can be hard to say. However it doesn't mean another TOC wont take you. I was in the same postion when I applied to Thameslink, I'd passed all of the tests but was rejected at the Driver manager interview stage. I felt my interview had gone ok but was weak so I knew what to improve on. Contact Thameslink HR to get feedback from your interviews, that's the best advice I have.

NKAY 11, when did you have your medical? I've got my interview coming up soon having passed the assessment a couple of weeks back - was just wondering about timeframes. Does anyone have an idea of when they're looking at getting people started training for the Gillingham depot? Don't mind waiting for as long as it takes but my wife is on at me about booking holidays! Good luck all.

Mine all happened pretty quick mate. Had my medical last week.
I'd already done the assessments before with southeastern so only had to go back and do 1 test which was the fault finding.

From applying up to now, its all been fairly quick with only about a week or a little bit more in between each stage.

Just want a start date now lol

Hi guys, been a long time lurker on this forum and now I've got an application going thought I'd sign up and introduce myself!

I've booked my assessment day in Croydon on 24th August. I haven't received any confirmation though. Should I receive an e-mail or some preread material?

Been reading a up on the tests involved and practising the Group Bourdon. Seems to bit quite tricky after a while starring at those pages.

I'm coming from a police background, currently a response driver in the Met, and this seems to be a route a lot of people are taking!

Anyone else going up on the 24th?

Hello all, I've also been a lurker on here!

NickR, I had my assessment on the 27th July so can shed some light on this! After booking it through the GTR carreer portal thing, the next day I recieved an email containing loads of training materials to help prep for the day.

So yes, you should recieve an email.....i'd also have a look online as you can buy software for a lot of the tests they carry out. I borrowed a load from my friend who's a train driver and this helped me massively in knowing what to expect etc...

But yeah I passed the assessment, had my managers interview @ Blackfriars on Tuesday 9th August and now I'm waiting to hear back.........Best of luck on your assessment day!

Cheers! Bit worrying I never received an e-mail. I've contacted them through the portal so hopefully they'll get back to me.

I've picked up a couple of the How2Become books to look at. I appreciate they're not going to be exactly the same but they seem to give a good idea of what to expect.

Out of interest what software did you buy?

Goatman out of interest when you had your assessment booked did it simply appear under the 'Booked Assessments' tab with a 'Cancel' and 'Amend' option?

They've just got back to me with the confirmation e-mail. Apparently they've had problems with the system. That's a lot of material to go through!

Yeah there's a serious amount of material to go through! Some of the tests on the day are computer based so I'd recommend getting your hands on some of the practice software if you can mate.... Its the closest thing you'll get to the actual tests and 100% worth it

I had my interview on the 9th August and haven't heard anything yet. I did ask on the day, and they couldn't give me an exact timeframe of when I would hear anything.....they just said it could take a couple of weeks

That's normal mate they will let you know. No news is usually good news as I think if you fail they just send an email.

Hi,

I'm also in the process of applying for the roles at Gillingham. I've already passed my assessment stage and I have the date for my DMI soon.

Its been an interesting process so far, I'm looking forward to the next stages, although a little nervous about the MMI. My assessment was so long ago I have to delve deep to remember the answers I gave to the questions they posed for the basis of the MMI!

Good luck to everyone going for the jobs in Gillingham :D

I've never had a medical before, do you mind me asking what they poke and what the prod during?

Sure. You'll have to fill in a general health questionnaire stating any conditions or anything you may have and they'll probably ask you a few questions regarding anything you put down.

They'll take your blood pressure, test your vision and hearing and you'll also have to have an ECG.

They may also ask you to do some basic stretches etc to test your movement etc.

Finally, you'll have to produce a urine sample which will be sent away to ensure you comply with their drugs and alcohol policy.

Well I managed to pass yesterday! Very tough and it was hard to see people that you've been chatting to and having a laugh with drop out throughout the day. There was only three of us by the end.

The examiner said we have got the DMI next. Is that the case? I thought it was the MMI.
