Trainline sold me an invalid ticket. What to do?

So, a few things arising. Should Trainline still be selling route "via Banbury" tickets with alternative itineraries out of London Euston now that Nuneham viaduct is back open, also should the Avanti gateline staff at Euston not have just withdrawn the ticket for further investigation but given the OP a receipt in order to complete their journey? Also, is the OP entitled to an element of 'Delay Repay' on the original fare paid, as well as repayment of the additional fare (= £40 - not sure how this was calculated?!) that was subsequently demanded of them?
