Very good Dan. I think both this and Headcodes.info could run side by side.
However, I think much of Headcodes.info detail is posted in advance after seeing a particular train in the morning and following the unit through the day. I recall once, the Cardiff Bay unit being listed in the morning and followed throughout the day - 4 round trips (8 trains an hour) for approx 16 hours a day. Another anticipated one I saw once was an ATW 150 working in the Valleys one day and posted in advance on the 21 55 Cardiff to Crewe. It may have been the diagram but once it had gone to Canton, it doesn't always mean that the same one is going to come back out whatever it may be diagrammed to do.

Yes, I have to say I've added some observations from services in the morning, yet the entire diagram for the rest of the day has been added.

I have been reminded on the site today of another anomaly. It involves 06 42 Cardiff to Pembroke (2x150) and after a gap a later train is shown obviously by following through. This shows the 2 sets but they would have been split in the meantime.

I see you observed one train I also observed, just a little earlier than you, DanTrainMan185! Wonder if you can tell which one it was in the list below.

The thing about a whole day's diagram being posted on Headcodes.info raises a fine point. I was, when transferring my observations from my phone to my notebook during Tuesday's commute, considering adding workings that should have been obvious a train had been. For example, the 0709 Hereford to Birmingham New Street, in theory there's only one service that should have come off, but as the thread title says "Trains you've seen working" not "Trains you've seen working and what they should have been doing". If that makes sense!

Anyway, this is the last of the work to do following Monday's trip now, so let's get it done:

...in theory there's only one service that should have come off, but as the thread title says "Trains you've seen working" not "Trains you've seen working and what they should have been doing". If that makes sense!

It does, I do know a few Glasgow-based diagrams quite well but would never add traction for services that I haven't actually seen (mainly in case there has been/will be a swap, which normally does happen in the case of service disruption).

Very right there, and there was disruption on the WCML yesterday as well as the Birmingham to Hereford and Liverpool routes, so definitely wouldn't be worth posting full diagrams.

I expect to have more observations for this thread next week, as I am hoping to get out and about on Monday. Maybe even in a different area rather than just the Midlands for a change!

Looks like you had a busy time then!

I'm looking at a possible Cardiff Valleys bash on Monday to get the last stations I need down there done, as well as hopefully getting those last 3 ATW 150s I need!

Indeed it was! Still need loads of Metrolink units though! The fact I had 3041 and 3072 twice was annoying!

Looks like you had a busy time then!

Indeed it was! Still need loads of Metrolink units though! The fact I had 3041 and 3072 twice was annoying!

That sort of thing is really annoying, agreed!

I'm looking at a possible Cardiff Valleys bash on Monday to get the last stations I need down there done, as well as hopefully getting those last 3 ATW 150s I need!

Ooh wow, enjoy! Let me know how you get on. What are the last 3 ATW 150s you're looking for?

The Valley Lines have a LOT of units, make sure you have Real Time Trains with you in order to match up units!

I shall indeed if I indeed go down there, I might be off to Barnstaple and back in a day instead to help my sister move back north but that's not confirmed either yet.

I can't actually remember without getting my book out which 150s I need, I'm sure 150227 and 150254 were two of them though!

Oh yes I use RTT a lot on my trips these days, so very useful!

Indeed. It happened when I went to Leeds in December, had 185147 between Manchester and Leeds in both directions, which is really annoying as I've only got about eight 185s! I've had 185149 twice too!!

Well if you're definitely coming down on Monday I'll let yoy know if I see either 150227 or 150254 and I'll post the diagram on here!

Ouch, that's harsh! I lost count of the amount of times I had 333001 and 333012 (four each at the minimum) on July 2013's West Yorkshire bash, which when I was still needing plenty of 333s was really frustrating!

For 185 nedding, I'm lucky I've been doing them for ages so just do Piccadilly to Oxford Road, Piccadilly to Airport or Piccadilly to Stockport (or vice versa on any of them) on them if one happens to turn up required now. Was well chuffed and had a lovely welcome back to the UK when I came back from the Benelux Interrail with a pair of winner 185s on the leap from Airport to Piccadilly, definitely not something likely to happen for a good while again if ever now!

If you're following me on Twitter (search for Techniquest2003), you'll soon find out if I'm down there or not ;) 150227, 150235 and 150253 are the ones I want according to my ST Publications book, which should be co-ordinated with my NREA book so I'm definitely after the gen. Knowing my luck, they'll be on Blaenau Ffestiniog, Bidston and HoW services now

Yeah, it is annoying when that happens!

2F04 0740 Ebbw Vale Parkway to Cardiff Central: 153353/150227
.....and I have another 26 to add but I can't be bothered to do it now

I have been reminded on the site today of another anomaly. It involves 06 42 Cardiff to Pembroke (2x150) and after a gap a later train is shown obviously by following through. This shows the 2 sets but they would have been split in the meantime.

Spotted another on "Headcodes.info" on the Cardiff Valleys today. A pair of Pacers posted and carried through to the end of the day regardless of the fact they split later on.

Indeed so, it was 142076 and 142083. I posted the first three workings (which I had seen them do), then someone else finished off the diagram. Luckily, however, Headcodes now has a very handy tool where any incorrect gen can be edited, which is ideal as I totally fluffed up the diagram of a 150 on the Warminster to Great Malvern corridor!

It's great that it's back up and running. The only problem I have is that when you upload sightings it doesn't list them in the order that the diagram runs, so for example you could post a Pacer working a service from Penarth at 2pm first but then this would be listed first. As a result, I jot down what units are working what services and then when I get home at the end of the day I then add them all so that they're in the right order! Otherwise it can be quite confusing.

I also note that the 0758 Maesteg to Cheltenham is now booked for a pair of 150s. This is great! Although yesterday it was just 150230 alone.

Also noticed that the two units that worked the 0742 Rhymney to Cardiff then split at Cardiff, where one forms the 0916 back to Rhymney and the other one forms the 0914 stopper to Swansea. Is this the usual practice for these two trains?

Philipe - you may know this. Does the 0547 Treherbert to Cardiff then form the 0701 Cardiff to Penarth upon arrival at Cardiff at 0652? If so does a new pair of Pacers from Canton form the 0706 up to Treherbert?

The 07 42 Rhymney working has been in operation for about 8 years. The Penarth Branch misses out on a train, likewise in the evening when they re-join for the 17 01 Cardiff to Rhymney. 07 06 Cardiff to Treherbert is 2xPacers ex Canton as thought. I'm not not sure if the Cheltenham to Maesteg is actually booked for 2x150 or whether there seems to be a 153 availability problem. 05 47 ex Treherbert does form 07 01 to Penarth. There is no problem waiting in No 7 as the 06 55 to Barry Island comes from Hereford and uses Platform 4.

I'm finally able to get on with posting my observations from Monday now. Took forever to transfer them from the phone to the notebook, and the ATW ones took up just over 2.5 sides of my A5 notebook!

The Penarth Branch misses out on a train, likewise in the evening when they re-join for the 17 01 Cardiff to Rhymney.

Indeed, there is no 0846 Cardiff to Penarth, nor is there a 1647 Penarth to Cardiff (yet with the latter there is on a Sunday!). Was particularly annoying for me as this was right when I would travel to and from my school in Penarth.

In that case then the 0547 Treherbert to Cardiff then goes on to work the 0701 to Penarth.

It must be a pretty bad shortage then as the 0758 Maesteg to Cheltenham has been a pair of 150s for the best part of two months now.

Here is the rest of my list of sightings for this week....

Monday 3rd March 2014:

Wow, you certainly were busy! Out of that list, I think I also saw about 50% of what you've listed above!

Just a bit busy aye! It's going to be even busier tomorrow as I try to work out stuff as it passes on a very busy region, I think I'll not be able to keep up!

I'll have plenty from the Southern Region to post by Tuesday evening, an area which is not getting much action on this thread. The West Midlands, Glasgow and South Wales/North Somerset are getting plenty of regular reports at least, just bugger all coming from Anglia, the North West, the North East, North/Mid Wales or the rest of Scotland :|
