I think trainz 2009 is quite good but the only problem is It does not come with any new British trains apart from the class 26.

What do you think?????

also there is the 222 in emt livery with opening doors.

I wasn't a fan of TS09, because it was to buggy and had too many problems.
The 66 has wuite a few liveries on the way, but currently just a few Freightliner liveries, EWS and DBS 66152.
The 66s and 222s (Along with plenty of others) are all for TRS04+.

I still have a very old Trainz Railroad Simulator, as well as Trainz 2006, Trainz 2009 and Trainz 2010. 2006 was very annoying at times as it always seemed to run very slow, no matter which PC I tried it on. 2009 is a bit flaky imho. I'm impressed with 2010 so far, though some content from the DLS doesn't seem to work in it, though I've checked and it works in 2009. Maybe I'm doing something wrong! I've also got EA Rail Simulator but I don't like the 'look and feel' of it. Not tried Microsoft's yet. Personally still think Trainz beats the others - maybe it's time for a brand spanking new up-to-date PC instead of this Frankenstein thing under my desk at the moment!!! :D

I've recently built a new PC with a 1GB Graphics Card and 4GB of RAM shortly to be upgraded to 8GB. I've also done a fresh install of TC3, TRS2009 and TRS2010. My first impressions are that TRS2009 seems to run smoother than TRS2010. I can "sort of" see the idea of SpeedTreez but I think they have an impact on performance and I could do without them.

BTW in reply to the OP's post two recent additions to the Trainz fleet have been an NBL D600 Warship and a Class 14 "Teddy Bear" plus a reskinned Class 25. I believe a Class 15 may be round the corner

I found 2009 worked brilliantly until I tried to add on sp2 then I sort of screwed it - will fix it eventually. Oh well I still have 06 to use :)

Both 06 and 09 have loads of excellent free content available:
Class 01-20,25,31,33,37,40,45,47,50,55,58,60,66,67,76,89,90,91,92,101,105,117,121,124,141,142,150,151,156,165(soon),166(soon),222,304,305,307,308,313,314,315,317,318,369 (fictional),365(soon),390,421,442,450,455,465(soon),466(soon),47x(fictional),507,508

The classes listed all have high quality models availible (door, interior, sounds, cabs (sometimes)

There is also payware for class 56,57,90,170,220,HST,357,377,502,503

Not all of them, some of them are still relatively basic models that have been around for years, and a few of the models aren't quite correct. But overall, they're pretty good.

Also, the 92 is payware, as is the better 08 and 58.

The ones I've got are good. Admittedly, the 101 has been around for ages but it looks good.

I got the 92 free (not illegally!). If you go onto eldavo's website, you can download a version of the 92 which has some features disabled and it has some writing over the model, but from a distance it's hardly noticable

Also, on the ones with '(soon)' that means there currently being made. There may be some low quality versions available but that's why I put the soon next to them. Russell Burgess (aka Wessexelectricnutter) is making the networker trains currently, classes 165,166,365,465,466. A beta version is available. what is fct do you have to buy one

A first class ticket (FCT) gives you faster download speed (a lot faster) and no 100mb download limit when downloading content. It also guarantees you a place on the auran server, so no 'cannot connect to server' messages.

You have to buy them, they come in 3,6 and 12 month tickets, as well as a lifetime ticket. The years worth is currently on an extended sale at about $19AUD (about £9).

Before you buy one though, check your auran account to see if you have any lying unused - you get some free when registering trainz sometimes or buying an add-on. If you have one of these, you can activate it whenever you want

They're supposed to give you a faster download speed, and indeed it used to be the case.
However, I've recently purchased one, because the reality is somewhat different - no FCT gives you pretty much no downloading whatsoever, just lots of 'The server appears to be full' messages; with an FCT, you get a fairly slow download speed and still get 'The server appears to be full' messages the majority of the time.
It's a shame, Auran used to be a really good company with good customer service, but since becoming a part of N3V the whole thing has gone downhill.
The DLS server has become extremely unreliable, it takes an age to get a reply to any queries or complaints, Trainz seems to have become a bit of a cash cow, with new versions costing ever more and being released more often, seemingly before all the bugs from previous versions have been solved - TS09 never had all it's bugs sorted before they moved on to TS10 and stopped updating it.

Yes, the server does seem to be very unreliable  but I've managed to download content on the free server on the days I go on trainz.

About your FCT, are you sure it's been activated - I've had a couple on the past (free ones) and they worked brilliantly.

Try 'Midshire Mainline' by Nexusdj (it will only work in 2010); it's a fictional route based in the midlands. There is also the Severn Valley Railway on the DLS.

Its bloody hard. But if you want to make them download Google Sketchup its free but you'll need some practice.
I would advise that you don't jump straight into making locos, it takes a lot of practice and time. Ideally, it is easier to start with more basic models such as signs etc., then moving onto more complicated things later.

I would recommend GMAX 3D modelling software also for content creation. It is used by some of the most advanced Trainz content creators.

Apparently Blender is easier to use than Gmax and I think you can get better results with it (I have a feeling Rumour3's 66 was made with Blender).
