It went via Coventry so had to reverse in Platform 4 to head to Tyseley.

Well that is an unusual routing. Reversing in Platform 4 to get to Coventry to reverse to get to Northampton.
Later on it returned to Tyseley and had to go through the same palaver!
was there no easier route? I feel there should have been but can’t think of it!

Not for Northampton but for Ilford I would have said it was easier to run via Oxford and Reading then the GWML, Acton Bank thence via North London Line and as booked to Ilford. Though given its come Norwich fairly recently why it wasn't sent directly to Ilford from there seems odd.

It’s gone from Norwich to Canton to Tyseley and was meant to go on to Ilford. That’s quite the mileage! I wonder if GA wanted something back off of it?!

It hasn't gone to Ilford. There is discussion here and a path to Canton today.
