Regarding the X38, one thing that I think really needs to happen is that a pair of bus stops should be placed outside the Toyota factory in Burnaston, as although the A38 road passes it (and therefore the X38 bus service), the Toyota factory is presently inaccessible by bus.
I certainly would not fancy a standing start into the traffic on the A38....Traffic along there seems to travel at 100mph, given how often I get overtaken. But there you have a major employer where employees have to get there by car. But even if you had bus stops, you'd still need access to said stops.

It could work, come off on the A50 island & use the actual slip road for Toyota (photo below) but then again this would add to the journey time.

719 has returned to service on Ilkeston Flyer temporarily while the ADLs have a bit of work done. 718/20/21/22/23 should be the ones earmarked for X38 AIUI

Is direct competition actually allowed by the Traffic Commissioner?
Yes. It's happened in many places, though it's rare now. Trentbarton has seen a lot of direct competition with identical or near-identical routes from several companies.

The Traffic Commissioner with only intervene if the total number of buses is likely to be dangerous or cause severe congestion.

Do they need to do 5 Volvos? Would 3 not do unless they are coming in a different livery.

If in doubt, keep painting them. As time progresses, TB might not even need 5 buses in X38 livery....I don't see Arriva ones in X38 livery, meaning they can easily be transferred to other routes.

Will also be a benefit of Arriva getting rid of the scanias and replacing them with pulsars. More of a vehicle range to put on the route and easily take one off a different route if needs be.

You can say what you like about Arriva but currently they have 3 buses out on X38s, due to how severely delayed everything is, whereas Trent dropped both of the last runs from Derby & Burton.. if Arriva can have sufficient spares & drivers, why don’t ’the really good bus company’.

Yes, looks like a V1 was dropped too, around 5pm. Maybe, just maybe, passengers recognise what Arriva do for them on the X38. and want more...

Looks like 302 broke down in Tutbury at 0740 and was never replaced meaning a nice 1h 42 gap between 1700 and 1842 for a villager from Derby. Meanwhile 269, 327, 712, 827 and 847 have all been on the red arrow at some point today. Shorly one of them could be moved over to the less frequent route.

Have you ever thought about being a political spin doctor?

Two operators competing with each other - one using branded buses is apparently bad, one using any standard bus with no branding is apparently good

If Trent ran the X38 every 5 minutes with fares of 10p, you’d find a way of favouring Arriva

To be honest, Arriva tend to stick to the Pulsars on x38 anyway (and a MMC decker at the weekend). I have seen a Streetlite on it the odd time and only today have i seen an Omnicity track on it.

Not many people see the branding on the buses or even take much notice, but with them having a more competitive route it's kind of handy for one to have a branding for it. Not only is it a walking advert for the route but it gives the passenger some information about the route as well as how frequent it is. Now with Arriva and Trent not taking each others tickets it'll be handy for the passenger who might have a Trent ticket to know that its not a Trent bus via Arriva's standard livery. The same said about Trent's branded liveries.

I can sense drivers getting the brunt of some argumentative punters. Currently I'm up the Victoria Street myself & 4 others just missed a x38, although a Versa arrived on the V3 so taking that instead. I kinda wish we had the new timetable now.

Besides the X38 being at the forefront of my mind, I've used the my15 & Ilkeston flyer today. Both are quite good routes and the new flyer vehicles are definitely much better, although I do have one thing niggling;why have they gone for the tinted windows on recent orders (threes, Villager, Ilkeston flyer)?

I think I'd rather have a reliable service, as Arriva has been achieving, over the 'Really Good Bus Company' that hasn't been bothering - and now thinks a bit of branding is necessary. Hardly the key point is it ?

Have you tried riding an older Enviro 200MMC in the summer?! They are absolutely unbearable, hence why they put in the tinted windows, which helps somewhat

It's definitely been noticeable when you go from having an older Enviro 200MMC (nines) to a newish one on the threes, especially this last week.

Maybe even the white painted roof will also reflect the heat too.. But I travelled on an Optare Solo earlier in the week. They have deeper opening windows, and when on the move, there was a lovely breeze down the bus. Maybe the lack of air on an Enviro 200MMC is down to the depth of the opening window, but I think the new ones have 4 opening windows.

Makes a bit of sense although I generally have my sunglasses with me on days its bright out. I know I do like the natural light of trents' E200MMCs but it does lend itself to the greenhouse effect, especially noticeable when I take a Alestree bus,

It helps by a long mile, even during this heatwave! They're nothing like the greenhouses that are running on the likes of Rainbow One and i4. I'm hopeful that they see sense and retrofit tinted windows to the rest of the ADLs but I doubt it

Probably will get them when their replacements are due or if damage occurs. Hopefully the former rather than the latter.
Kinch do seem to be replacing broken windows with the tinded ones so it might be something trent will do as well

Can only comment on the nines examples myself but whenever they get smashed windows they're still the non tinted ones that are put in.

Whilst on the subject of rather hot Enviro 200MMCs without tinted windows.... What is it like for the driver, who has to sit in the cab for a long time?

It still gets very hot but no where near as hot as it would for example on the Allestree ADLs which can get unbearable.

It can become rather moist!
At the end of the day, the driver has to be comfortable in their job.

Oh yes. Not long after they were introduced, I fed back that they were too hot with poor ventilation and sunroofs. Trentbarton responded "It won't be an issue, as we don't get that many hot days in a year". But a fair number of potential users have access to a car with opening windows or Aircon. You know, maybe deeper opening windows is a cheaper solution.
