I suspect that if a driver saw someone very suspicious coming towards their cab they would asses the threat and take 1 of 2 actions - 1) try to confront said person if they look like they might try to gain access, or 2) if the person looks very suspicious (like bulging vest etc) make a PA and start running for the other end of the train! It would be interesting to see what actual drivers would do though.

Spacepheonix, you talk about giving someone a sitting duck target - driving a train very slowly past an explosive device would if anything make it easier to target, indeed the person could wait until he sees a really packed carriage before pushing the button. Surely the sensible thing to do would be to drive the trains away from said explosive device in the opposite direction as quickly and safely as possible!

I think this thread proves beyond doubt my theory that all trains should have at least one 7.62mm GPMG fitted, this would enable the driver, he/she has to do the job DOO of course due to the 2nd man/woman being made surplus to requirements, to splatter said suspicious terrorist all over the track disabling his/her ability to blow up the train

Job done I think

This is nonsense. I'm sure we can all imagine a terrorist just walking off a platform ramp and walking up to a train as it pulls INTO a station...

Not sure it would be practical for them to run through as in some classes there might be a bulkhead with no door for them to pass through.

Getting the trains away from any suspect would be the best way, then once all trains are clear and evacuated (and any nearby station), get the armed police to take the suspect down. The trains the station side of the person could have been moved back into the platforms and evacuated and the trains the other side could have been moved slow speed to Vaxhaul and evacuated.
