That's a great snapshot of the economic differences

.

You might think that - but the largest branch of Waitrose is, in fact, in Southend (while the smallest of the traditional branches is one of the three on the Finchley Road)

I was wondering if anyone could work out which London route went past the most branches of Pret a Manger?

The 29 in London passes (at least):
  • 8 x Sainsburys (Wood Green High Road x 2, Harringay Arena, Camden Town, Mornington Crescent, Hampstead Rd, Tottenham Court Rd x 2)
  • 6 x Tesco (Wood Green High Road, Harringay, Finsbury Park, Seven Sisters Rd, Camden Rd, Tottenham Court Rd)
  • 3 x Lidl (Wood Green, Finsbury Park, Camden High St)
  • 4 x Poundland (Wood Green, Harringay Arena, Camden High St x 2)
  • 3 x Waitrose (Holloway Rd, Camden High St, Tottenham Court Rd)
  • 2 x Morrisons (Wood Green, Holloway Rd) - included as they're something of a rarity in London
  • and one prison!
As for stores as economic bellwethers, well, on Camden High Street, there's a Waitrose & a Poundland almost opposite each other...

Lothian's 4 starts off at one branch of Asda, at the Jewel, and passes near to the Slateford branch en-route.

And how about the Lothian 40, which serves three Tesco branches: Musselburgh (Extra), Eskbank and Penicuik (both Superstores).

Not any more - if you're thinking of the one on Old Brompton Road that was the first ever but it's not there any more. Not sure we've ever had one on Fulham Road but it's possible.

I boarded a number 30 bus after my purchase, so (a) it was a long time ago and (b) it must have been Old Brompton:)

Yorkshire Tiger service 80 (Huddersfield to Clayton West) serves 2 Tescos (Moldgreen and Scissett) and at least 3 branches of Co-Op (Lepton, Kirkburton and Skelmanthorpe). Also 2 branches of McDonald's (Huddersfield central and Waterloo drive-thru).
