Considering how significant some of these numbers are, it seems ridiculous that these stations are unmanned.

Okay, take Cardiff Bay as an example, what benefit would staffing the station provide?

It would just be something else for the tax payer to fund.

Staff it and install barriers, catch out those pay when challenged passengers who change at Queen Street to head further north. I was there during the summer with a RPI block, and those RPIs were quite busy.

Or even after 10;00 on a weekday where most passengers know if they jump into the front unit of a pair of 331s it's less likely to get gripped so they can get away with an e-ticket from Edge Hill to bypass the barriers at Lime Street;)
So are passenger numbers from Edge Hill inflated…!
