Thanks for all the replies folks. I hadn't realised there were so many names. The class 47's surprised me. However I stopped interest in 1984.

I am not going to attempt to list them all, but the Liverpool & Manchester Railway used assorted bird names, starting with Swallow built in 1841. Its successor, the LNWR continued to use / reuse bird names on steam locos for many years.
