Surprised no-one's mentioned Pilning.
Because it's a pointless station in the middle of nowhere which even when it had a decent service nobody used it?

Like Polesworth, the second platform still exists but has no access due to the removal of the footbridge.

Thorpe-le-Soken platform 1(?) in 1982, Walton-on-the-Naze (198?), Southend East (though the southern most platform(s) we’re only used by parcels trains laterly (198?), Southend Central plats 5 & 6 (197?) all the mainline platforms on the District Line stations between Bromley-by-Bow and Hornchurch (after LTS electrification and separation in 1962).

Brighton's Platform 9, which was the nearest to the Signal Box (also removed). Normally used for Coastway East trains but could be accessed from the main line if needed.
I'll see your platform 9 and raise you a platform 10, which was even further out. Will also add Three Oaks, Doleham and Winchelsea to the list (When the Marsh was singled in 1979ish)

Ryde Esplanade and Ryde Pier Head's platform 2s were still in use until some point in the (I think) 1990s, when the shuttle service up and down the pier ended (happy to be corrected on that one as I'm not 100% certain on the year). The platforms and track are still mostly intact, albeit overgrown at Esplanade and fenced off at Pier Head.

Okehampton had three in passenger use until late 1966 then two, then one from about 1970 until June 1972 when services to Exeter ceased , then a few years later one reopened for Summer Sunday trains from / to Exeter.
then in late 90’s a second platform (no. 2 ) reopened for shuttle trains to/ from Meldon Halt.
All three platforms out of use from late 2019 until plat 3 reopened for use by the reinstated passenger services to and from Exeter in Nov 2021.
Track still exists in plats 1 and 2 but disused and disconnected and every indication it will remain so into the future.

There are also the central island platforms that are sealed off along the SWML along the 'paired by direction' section:
New Malden
Esher
Walton-on-Thames
West Byfleet
Farnborough
Winchfield
& Hook

West Byfleet down fast platform is still in use.

Not sure how far back we are going in history. Banstead and Belmont, when they went single line in 1982.

Rugby lost its down facing bays in the West Coast Route Modernisation although gained an additional (3?) through platforms at the same time.

On the tube, Charing Cross of course lost the Jubilee Line platforms with the Jubilee Line Extension.

When did Stranraer platform 2 close?

Stretching it a bit but Workington North lost both of its platforms when the road link was re-established to Workington town.

Not sure if re-sited stations count, but did Windermere have more than one platform prior to the station being moved back to make way for Booths during the 1980s? Ditto Morecambe has two platforms now, but I'm sure I recall the old station having more than that in the 80s (though perhaps my memory is wrong)?

Barking P1 is technically out of use, but still available for London Overground in case of engineering work between there and Riverside.

Hunts Cross, the terminus for the Northern line on Merseyrail had its northern-most platform removed, or at least it lays abandoned and overgrown.

Aberystwyth - VOR which used the Carmarthen Platforms though passengers boarded from rail level in the centre and not from the actual platforms. Carraige shed on site now with path down side to access new station.

Is there any word on whether or not GWR will put in a new bridge or underpass at Pilning for the 2nd platform?
Unless there’s some pretty substantial development, then there’s little point. If there is and the “S-Bahn de Cymru ” comes to fruition on the other side of the tunnel, things might be different.

Bradford FS essentially saw all of its platforms taken out of use, and replaced with new ones.

And is sort of getting one of the old ones back again.

Slough lost one - platform 5. Which really they should have kept to turn some Crossrail services there…

Newcastle lost the original P1-3 when the Metro replaced trains round the North Tyneside loop. (Manors lost platforms at the same time.)

Then the old P4-6 went when the new island (now P4-8) was opened.

It is a fair few years since Darlington lost its north facing bay.
Newcastle also lost the old platform 15, which was adjacent to 14 (latterly the recently decommissioned 12), but went to the other side of the buildings next to the old motorail loading bays. Back in the 60s, virtually all Tyne Valley services used 14 & 15 but, of course, were routed via Scotswood in those days.
Also, I don't think anyone has mentioned Durham, which had, at least 2 north facing bays on the down side and 2 south facing on the up side (although 1 of these might have been non-passenger). I can't remember whether there were any north facing bays on the up side as well.

I’d class it as “not in regular use”. Still theoretically available.
Theoretically maybe available, but apart from Platform 1 the whole place is caked in rust. Not a clue when any of it was last used. Every rail tour that heads down that way now is top & tail and not run round.
Apologies for slight drift off topic, however does anyone know how often Stranraer box is or when was last switched in?

I believe it’s switched in monthly for maintenance.

Montrose lost its North end bay although theres talk of that being reopened.

Perth lost is North end bays, now the fuel road and part of the car park.

Darlington lost a couple of North facing bays as well didn't it?

Dunfermline (insert this week‘s name here) had lost the “loop” by the time of resignalling in late 1980. It probably went when the signal box closed (1975?).

On Stirling: platforms 4 & 5 (north end bays) still exist but are unavailable for passenger use.
