Southampton has already been mentioned as having the Bluestar 1 to Winchester and First City Red 1 to Calmore (but not for much longer!).

I’m not sure the northern end of Bluestar 1 has been mentioned though? Winchester has that and the Stagecoach 1 (crosstown route to Stanmore and Winnall).

The latter is actually the oldest: I remember in the early 90s the Winchester city services were numbered in the 25-29 range (with the strange exceptions of the 2 to Highcliffe and 4 to Winnall). In early 1994 they were renumbered in the current scheme though the 1 never used to go to Winnall (in fact I was unaware it did now), it was always Stanmore only, and at one point was Stanmore-Harestock. Winnall at that time was on the cross-city route 5 to Badger Farm, obviously that has changed since.

Most of the duplicates in Southampton will be eliminated when First (City Red) cease trading in the city later this month, however there will still be one duplicate number within the city boundary after this date - the X4. This number is used for both the Xelabus route between Eastleigh and Hedge End via Mansbridge, and the Southampton - Locks Heath - Fareham - Portsmouth route operated by First Solent (ironically one of only two First routes that will remain serving Southampton).

In Sunderland, there’s the GNE 20 to Durham but also Stagecoach’s 20 offering to Pennywell. Same applies for GNE 8 to Stanley and Stagecoach 8 to South Hylton.

The GNE 2/2A to Washington vs Stagecoach E2 or GNE 24 vs Stagecoach X24 can also be similarly confusing to visitors.

Hemel Hempstead now has two route 1s

One is the existing local bus route, run by Red Eagle
The duplicate was created when the Carousel 1 from Wycombe to Chesham was extended to Hemel to replace the discontinued 105 route.

I remember Stagecoach also ran a service 2 in Sunderland at one time.

Lots and lots of duplicate route numbers in Newcastle- perhaps inevitable with three long-established operators? These are the ones I can think of off the top of my head:

1 - Stagecoach Slatyford to Coach Lane
1 - Go North East Gateshead to Whitley Bay
6 - Stagecoach Metrocentre to High Heaton
6 - GNE Newcastle to Lanchester
10 - Stagecoach West Denton to North Kenton
10 - GNE Newcastle to Hexham
12 - Stagecoach Fenham to Wallsend
12 - GNE Newcastle to Winlaton

X10 - Arriva Newcastle to Blyth
X10 - GNE Newcastle to Middlesbrough
X11 - Arriva Newcastle to Blyth
X11 - GNE Newcastle to Scarborough
X21 - Arriva Newcastle to Ashington
X21 - GNE Newcastle to West Auckland
X30 - Arriva Newcastle to Blyth
X30 - GNE Newcastle to Consett

In Winchester, the two number 1s not only share St Cross Road south of the centre, but also seem to run within a few minutes of each other in both directions (going by stop departure times on Google Maps), with both routes generally at 20-minute intervals

Bedford used to have two 1s when MK Metro's 1 extended from Newport Pagnell to Bedford, though it was referred to as MK1 within Bedford.

Interestingly a sort of comparable route (a modified 99) is now actually numbered MK1.

From Coruscant-upon-Pearl to North Acton....
Until recently in London, alongside the established 8, a Stagecoach route between Bow Church and Tottenham Court Road...there was also Arriva The Shires 8, serving Mount Vernon Hospital at the very edge of the capital. (The latter is now the 508 or something)

There used to be two routes numbered 44 in Sheffield until 2015, one the long established service from Sheffield to Chesterfield run by Stagecoach & First 44 between Sheffield & Crystal Peaks via Birley, now part of the 8/8a.

In Barnsley there was a time when First ran the 22 between Rotherham & Barnsley. Still running in Barnsley & at the same time as the First version is a Stagecoach 22 between Barnsley & Gilroyd & 22x between Barnsley & Rotherham also run by Stagecoach.
