(Apologies if this is the wrong forum area.)

London Overground runs services between Clapham Junction and Dalston Junction. The 3-letter CRS codes for these stations (CLJ and DLJ respectively) differ by one adjacent letter (C --> D). Are there any other examples of services like this?

I think there is, or at least was, a service that runs from Exeter Central to Exeter St David's (EXC, EXD).

Might the Wrexham stations have the same?

Plenty of RDG-RDH (Reading-Redhill)
SBT-SBJ (Stourbridge)

I'm sure there will be more

Those two don't work out for various reasons, but Cardiff Queen Street to Cardiff Bay does! (CDQ, CDB).

Some good ideas there!

Just to clarify, I'm ideally looking for stations which differ by adjacent letters, though suggestions like SBT-SBJ are also welcome.

There is a BBN to BPN service at 0613, and BPN to BBN service at 2255, on all days except Sunday (these stations being Blackburn/Blackpool North).

Doesn't fit the criteria, but during Midland Mainline's "Operation Rio" you could catch a direct train from London St Pancras (STP) to Stockport (SPT).

There are a few early and late XC services between Birmingham New Street (BHM) and Bournemouth (BMH)

These ones are particularly good as if you are say, tired, you could get confused really easily ;)

Was Stockport actually the start/end location for the Midland Mainline "Project Rio" service, thought it was Manchester Piccadilly? :s

Carstairs to Garscadden
CRS to GRS

Also, Carstairs has the same code as the acronym 'CRS' as a bonus :D

Can you get direct trains between the two? Even if so, surely they don't terminate at Garscadden?
Theres one train per day in the morning and it does terminate at Garscadden, used to be two per day pre covid.

There was a memorable occasion back in the days of CRS when the person responsible for reservations on what was then Northern Spirit (IIRC) managed to introduce 236mph (380km/h) running to the Midland Main Line by getting the codes for St Pancras and Stockport mixed up, so CRS thought there were trains from St Pancras to Sheffield taking just 42 minutes.

Chaos ensued until it was rectified, given journey planners would show those trains rather than the actual Midland Mainline services.

Did Northern have reservable trains back then?

What an odd working! I never knew that.
Runs in to Yoker depot after terminating at Garscadden. One of the evening Carstairs trains used to run empty all the way back to Yoker depot but that doesn't appear to be the case at the moment.

Not adjacent letters, but other one letter different end-to-end journeys include:

The half-hourly Ascot to Aldershot shuttle services run ACT-AHT for most of the day, Monday to Saturday.

There is also at least one short trip that SWR operate between Yeovil Pen Mill and Yeovil Junction (YVP-YVJ).
