Probably because it varies quite a bit, but yes should be clearer than that.

For Glasgow, mostly after 0900. For Edinburgh, after 0915 and not between 1645 and 1815 IIRC. (Assuming they're using the same definitions as for the normal tickets which is the logical assumption).

Edinburgh:
Mon to Fri: valid from 09:15 but not valid out of Edinburgh or Haymarket between 1643-1810 except for the 1756 Edinburgh–West Calder and not valid on the 1815 Edinburgh–Falkirk High

Glasgow:
Mon to Fri: valid from 09:15 but not valid out of Glasgow Central or Queen Street between 16.43-18.10 and not valid on the 1815 Glasgow Queen St–Falkirk High

From railrover.org

You would not know this from the Scotrail website though.
Also would have thought the whole of the Fife Circle would be included.

Or at least Dunfermline which I'd rate as a bit more interesting for the tourist than Kirkcaldy. My interest is that they both stretch as far as Stirling so since I'm near there I'm considering the possibilities. A ticket is little more than a return to Tweedbank (with Club 50 discount) and I've not done the Borders railway yet.

Then it's like a day of free travel to go to North Berwick; the Fife Coast; or, er, West Calder or Bathgate.

Good to note that it carries evening peak restrictions, which does limit it's value
To me though it seems to suggest that so long as you stay away from the main stations in those couple of hours then you should be fine.

I'd find it insane to have the ticket completely invalid for a couple of hours.

Looking at the maps - It could be quite useful to purchase both of these tickets and be able to make multiple trips between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh if anyone so wished!!

The text on that site says the Fife Circle via Dunfermline is included, but the map shows otherwise.

As already stated, Dunfermline has many attractions for tourists who seem to be the target market for these tickets.

If going for 3 days, I believe the Central Scotland Rover is better value if it still exists?

If anyone has already analysed how the Glasgow one matches up to the SPT daytripper, I'd be interested to read your thoughts (too lazy to do it myself just yet since I'm only going in late June)

The Central Scotland still exists, but now appears to be a straight 3 days. It used to be 3 in 7. When did this happen? I did one in May 2015 and it was a 3 in 7 then.

The difference for the Daytripper over the Glasgow Days Out is that it allows Cardross to Ardlui, Ayr to Barrhill, Kilmarnock to New Cumnock and Holytown to Shotts. Also the Glasgow underground.

Whereas the Glasgow Days Out gives you east of Cumbernauld and Croy to Falkirk, Larbert and Stirling. There's also no Glasgow evening peak restrictions with the Daytripper.

Daytripper costs £11.90 adult (or £10.50 each if there's two of you)
Days Out costs £18 but is valid for two days, so that's £9 a day.

So it all depends on whether you wish to travel further afield to Falkirk and Stirling at the expense of giving up Ardlui, Barrhill, Kilmarnock and Shotts.

If it's just Strathclyde you're interested in and only want a day ticket then the Daytripper is the best one.

Not forgetting about the SPT Roundabout ticket which can be better value depending which areas you want to visit

The Daytripper also gives you most buses, and the Daytripper and Roundabout give you the Subway. The Glasgow Days Out is only trains.
