2. What uses platform 5?

Thanks :D

Not much, most traffic uses 1-3. But I have seen a picture somewhere on the internet of a TPE 185 using platform 5, probably during the summer seeing as there was an EMT 222 in platform 4.

It's on its Wikipedia page - does that Scarborough Spa Express steam special thingy use 1?

Yeah that's the photo I was thinking of.

Yeah normally, its the longest platform and the train is a long train

So whatever is schedualed in on 1 on that day must go into 5... or another free platform. Want to go into all platforms before they remodel it: but nothing goes in 5 :D

I am pretty sure I have been on a 185 which has gone into Pl 5 - can't remember when though but I seem to recall it been up against a wall! In fact, I am almost certain and it wasnlt when an EMT train was there either. Not sure what usage it gets by standard though.

I have seen Northern trains in Pl 1 before now as well - I think it may be where they stable them at the end of duty ready for their turn next day.

Also, random fact which I am sure has been mentioned somewhere on the forum before, pl 1 has the longest station seat in the world - not the longest platform in the UK though, that honour goes to Gloucester!

When I was at Scarborough last month, 5 platforms were in use.
the Northern service to Hull was in Platform 5, .
It was a Saturday, so the EMT Meridian set was stabled in 4 awaiting departure time.
TPE in 2 & 3.
Charter services in 1 (I was on the UKR charter from KX but there was also a Deltic charter same day using the same platform)

Ongoing trivia...attached is the "closed?" debate on platform lengths. Whilst I don't dispute that Gloucester has the longest, now that Victoria/Exchange no longer exists, but prior to the construction of Gloucester (1973?), the honour was firmly held by Perth's up main, at 1672 ft...OK it was numbered 4/10 but was (is?) continuous.
It had crossovers roughly halfway along, as did the dn. main, and regularly saw running past to said crossover, especially around the busy lunchtime Inverness and Aberdeen expresses. Trains from Glasgow/Edinburgh to/from Inverness direct and via Forres would split and combine at Perth creating interesting loco movements as the they changed at Perth...I am talking into the early/mid '60s here!
Restaurant cars were added or removed from the portions also by the stalwart caley bogie pilots.

Sadly none of this happens now and the longest train to be seen will be the 125 Highland Chieftan.

All platforms at SCA are in use. Recently P5 was out of use whilst building workers were close to the lineside.
A new track layout with control from Seamer will be installed in a possession between October 6 and November 1st.
