Hi all, for those of you who started recently, what sort of dress code is there when you first start? Do you get uniform straight away? What stationary stuff have you needed so far? I don't want to go out a buy loads of new stuff if I won't need it!

Hi, sorry i can’t answer your question but was just wondering have you been given a start date, if so when? I passed my tests in December and was told they may be back in touch around March time. Just hoping the new lockdown hasn’t put things on hold again. Thanks

Uniform will be with you either first day or within a few days of starting, just casual till then. As for stationary a big A4 notepad and pens will do you.

As above. Smart casual the first day and you should have your uniform... or parts of it in the first day or two. Assuming there are no supply issues.
lots of paperwork given through the entire course (Im nearing the end and I’ve currently filled a lever arch file and 2 smaller files) so you’ll find it useful to have some ring binder files, a hole punch, pencil case with the usual stuff in, highlighters and a notepad.

I am due to start on the March course. Any hints and tips? Are the assessments really hard?

I won’t sugarcoat it, they can be really hard and a high standard is expected. You will end up revising on your days off. But if you’ve passed the assessments to get onto the training, you are capable of doing it.
If I could go back and give myself advice I would tell myself to ask more questions and don’t go away at the end of the day if you are unsure of anything, make sure you get clarification, because small details really matter, epecially in the assessments.
Also the trainers are there to support you so if you have any problems during the course let them know.
I would definitely say it’s been a lot harder than I expected and it will be a big part of your life for six months, but you’ll love it.

Hi all. I passed the Psychometric tests back in December and just hanging on for word about the next stage. I was told that it would be around March time that anything is done as the current training schools are filled. Has anyone had word about the schools being pushed back due to lockdown?

I haven't heard anything from the HR lady.

Good to know I'm not the only one waiting. Mad to think I applied almost 2 years ago for this role, but I guess that's what comes with these types of things. Looking forward to getting started though!

Hello all

Wondering if anybody can help please. My hubby has his assessment day on the 9th of March. In the 18 months since he went into the talent bank he has been prescribed with a hearing aid. I am aware there are formal guidelines on the medicals and hearing loss levels but there seems to be no clarity on whether the hearing test is done with the aid of a hearing device and whether one can actually be worn as a train driver.

scanning this forum, some posts suggest that the test can be retaken with a hearing aid if the minimal level is just missed for example yet the guidelines state that the min level must be met with out. I have also read that some tocs send you for specialist hearing aids even if you just miss the standard.

Does anybody have any knowledge or advice as he doesn’t want to waste anybody’s time by doing the assessments if he would fail the medical anyway

thank you

Hi, hearing aids can be worn as a driver, but it’s best to speak to the TOC direct as they may have policies regarding those not already in their employment about medical standards.

Its best to speak to metro direct and ask them. The person I delt with when I was going through recruitment was really canny and I had some medical issues that I enquired about, she did her best to liaise with the occupational health company. Just email your contact and explain, of If there is a phone number call them up, they will do their best to find out for you.

Hi there. Can I just ask when your partner had his psychometric assessment? I.e what month?
Also, was he only informed recently of his medical assessment appointment? I am still waiting to hear back about my medical so I thought it would be good to ask. Thank you!

He’s only been invited for the assessment day on the 9th March this year so would obviously need to pass that before any medical. Good luck with yours!

Thank you, he’s called and they were very helpful on the phone

Anyone heard whether there are any new start dates in the pipeline? nothing heard for a while now.
I believe Sarah has sent out a communication. Apparently all schools are now pushed back with no definitive dates set as of yet.

Hi. Just found out that I passed the psychometrics and am now waiting to get on a course. Proper chuffed!
I was wondering, when you’re in the course do you get the free Metro travel or is that only when you qualify?
Thanks.

You should get a temporary pass for free travel on Metro only within a day or two. Pop cards should follow within a week or so.
