Tyne & Wear Metro - validators not working.

I arrived back at Pallion at 23.30 to see that one of the vallidaters was blanked off, and the other had a white screen, of which I had tried using.
I got in touch with Metro and was told "don't worry, you will be charged until the end of service"!
Its like me saying "don't worry, I'm not paying my fare to use the Metro"!!
I witness so many people not paying at Pallion, yet if I was caught I would get a fine.
METRO; YOU ARE LOSING A FORTUNE, AND YOU DON'T SEEM BOTHERED ABOUT IT!!!

If you tapped in at the beginning of your journey, but not out, you’ll just be charged an ABC all day, so you are paying.

Fare evasion is a known issue on the Sunderland line. However the low numbers of passengers means it isn’t really an issue / isn’t worth the revenue protection hours being primarily focused down there. Larger opportunities elsewhere!

Please also do not forget many people may have paper tickets purchased earlier on in the day, week or month. They don’t need to prove their possession every time they access the network at most stops.

If I'm right, and he has tapped in, then the information is actually completely wrong as it'll be an ABCD ticket so it'll be an overcharge. I'd be definitely keeping an eye on that and complaining personally, it could potentially cost you £3.30 (depending on what zones it is) assuming they didn't come from Ashington.

Yeah but you can go onto the website and amend your journey from there. I’m surprised nexus diddnt say this in their response Actually.

Yes my mistake, always forget about this new zone!

Only physical cards that isn't it? Believe you've got to request a refund when using Google Pay / Wallet. Then again it also says that it doesn't work on buses but it very much does as the Arriva machines like defaulting to it, which is annoying, as you can't use contactless as a result.

Hopefully when the new multimodal system comes out soon they come up with a better system as it's pretty naff atm really.

Something needs to change! Trains full of litter, people punching door buttons before the train stops, feet on seats, as well as infrastructure failures with a potential to overcharge honest paying passengers!
I hope I am not breaking the rules on this forum by posting this reply, but we all have a responsibility to look after public transport.
The low passenger numbers discribed above may be a result of people feeling an un-ease about the Sunderland line.
Metro needs the Washington loop that was forwarded over 2 years ago to make the system a lot more worth while too especially with the fantastic Stadler trains (when the softwear issue is sorted)!
Thanks for the replies above.
