Perhaps you could 'Welshify' the name, as they do for 'Wrecsam'. 'Wecffyld' anyone? Is there a Welsh word for Wakefield![]()

Speak for yourself, I’d be bored stiff on an MTU HST for that long, a Virgin EC one perhaps excluded. I thoroughly enjoyed my Aberdeen Penzance trip on a Voyager by contrast.that was on an HST, which is infinitely better than the hellish experience that is a Voyager.
Going back to the original post, is there a good reason why it reverses at Bristol Parkway? Given it's for engineering works, when there are so many other changes (and Bristol Parkway to Temple Meads is so regular) why isn't it feasible to run straight from Temple Meads to Newport?I know a lot of people on this forum have been chatting about the removal of the Aberdeen to Penzance service in May, and I know a lot of people want to do the journey before it’s withdrawn, so here’s an added bonus opportunity for you all.
I was planning a XC trip next weekend and noticed there’s an unusual Penzance to Aberdeen service running, presumably because of engineering work and timetable changes.
Realtime Trains | 0632 Penzance to Aberdeen | 03/05/2025
Real-time train running information for 0632 departure from Penzance to Aberdeen on 03/05/2025. From Realtime Trains, an independent source of train running info for Great Britain.www.realtimetrains.co.uk
There are a few added bonuses actually:
1. It’s going in the opposite direction to the usual service
2. It visits all 3 mainland UK countries with an added stop in Newport
3. It visits Gloucester without reversing
4. It takes even longer than the southbound, with an extra hour of Voyager comfort to enjoy
5. I couldn’t see any big football matches that mean the train would be swamped by supporters
I have no idea if this is for one day only, but it looks like it could be an enthusiast’s bank holiday treat![]()
It wasn’t an MTU HST…Speak for yourself, I’d be bored stiff on an MTU HST for that long, a Virgin EC one perhaps excluded. I thoroughly enjoyed my Aberdeen Penzance trip on a Voyager by contrast.
Okay. I’m not sure why I added MTU in there to be fair as I’m not that fussed about HSTs either way.It wasn’t an MTU HST…
The voices TfW use at their stations have the stops to Aberdeen recorded. Interestingly the Welsh voice says ‘Loo-shars’ for Leuchars and both the English and Welsh voices mispronounce Kirkcaldy. Caeredin is used for Edinburgh and Caer Efrog is used for York.It would make me happy if the Welsh for Edinburgh - Caeredin - is in the PIS.
Am currently on this service and the TM, having seen my PNZ - ABD ticket, told me something about being able to get some kind of certificate from customer relations. Does anyone know anymore about this?
I have seen this on a Discord server, I don't think I can post it here thoughDoes anyone know anymore about this?
Good effort! Was it a double set all the way with no catering in your half like I had yesterdayAm currently on this service and the TM, having seen my PNZ - ABD ticket, told me something about being able to get some kind of certificate from customer relations. Does anyone know anymore about this?
No just a single 220 that they couldn’t actually push the trolley through because it was so busy! Good journey though.Good effort! Was it a double set all the way with no catering in your half like I had yesterday![]()
