Got the 86 running with the newly built mk3s today on my local model engineering society's guage 1 layout. I have upgraded the motors inside so there's now two body mounted lego XL motors and an 11.1v lipo battery in the first coach. I have also tucked away one of the 6x AAA battery packs in the rear cab for light engine moves if they are required. Unfortunately this set up still doesn't really cut the mustard, it goes quite slowly and I'm not sure how confident I would be of it pulling 5 more coaches and a DVT, let alone at a scale speed of 110 mph. Not to mention the motors have to run off of their own RC Reciever due to the fact if only one is used the thermistor trips and the model no longer moves until it has cooled down. This in turn has caused some problems where if only one of the Recievers recieve the RC signal from the controller, one motor stops whilst the other continues moving. I'll ponder some improvements and test out different gear ratios.
That’s unbelievable!!

After falling down the rabbit hole that is Lego after a decades long break, and buying 4 sets in the last fortnight I've been reading lots about Lego lately.

On the Lego Ideas site (designs that get 10,000 votes within 2 years get considered by Lego to be potentially made) there is this version of the Mallard

There are some very talented designers on there, I wonder if there really could be a Great British Bake Off Lego set - its reached the review stage.

Some very nice designs that have been posted here the past few months, especially the Intercity liveried trains. Nice job everyone.

A quick update of what I have been up to lego-trains wise. I have improved my Southern Class 377 design. Improvements includes better looking windows, better pantograph recess, better looking bogies, foldable roofs which makes it easier to access the inside of the carriage & easy access to the switch of the battery box (the switch is hidden underneath the pantograph, simply raise the pantograph to access the switch). Here are some pictures:

Here is my other recent train design but it is not UK based. Those who have played the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will recognise this. This is the train that appeared in that game which is called the Brown Streak Railroad express train.

Brilliant.

That would make a good basic training video for people getting jobs in the train manufacturing industry.
Even TOC directors or DfT might benefit from a little more appreciation of things railway :D.
