Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried to use their season ticket outside of their specified route but still within the permitted route map? Say you have a season ticket between Croydon stations and Brighton, according to the routing guide map the route you've to take is "LB - Bedford and London to Central Sussex and Brighton", and by definition "any permitted" route is the shortest route on that map from your specified origin to destination stations. But since you are able to get off/on at any stations in between, are you also able to access stations outside your specific route such as Clapham Junction or London Victoria, which are still points on the routing map. Of course, I know that this is not allowed but would you be able to use the ticket at the barriers at these stations? Has anyone tried this?

You must be able to trace a permitted route between your origin and destination without doubling back. You can only use intermediate stations on that permitted route.

"Any permitted" does not mean any station you want, on the map or not. It must be on a permitted route between origin and destination.

Alight at Clapham Junction in your case and you will end up with a Penalty Fare.

The shortest route is not based on the maps. It is based on the shortest distance between origin and destination by mileage. Many shortest routes are not mapped between Routeing Points.

Jack3T you need to read the full route information guide instructions and not go straight to the maps
