According to the Vy (Norwegian Rail) website there is a direct service from Gothenburg to Oslo operated by them at 10.15. (see below)

The Interrail journey planner does not show this service instead it routes me via Kil and Kongsvinger with changes at these locations and a much longer journey time.

Does anyone know why this is?

Interrail website is not always 100% accurate, always rely on local operator info primarily.

For reservations, sj.se can do reservations on their own trains and some others for interrail holders but do not show a reduction for this Vy train. Only option for booking is phone call to Entur https://om.entur.no/kundesenter

The Gothenburg-Oslo trains (R20) are now 'free seating' (reservation not possible) according to Entur recently. They certainly exist; I shall be using them twice next week.

Again: avoid that app, its often much outdated.
There were reported (via the community.eurail) works along part of the line (and as its single track mostly) hence bus-replacement. That may explain the changes. Also works on the main Oslo-STOckholm line.

As already mentioned engineering work is taking place on selected days. The days the train IC118(?) is scheduled to run can be found on the DB planner. The train doesn’t run every day.

Having said that when I looked yesterday there was no mention of the train on the DB planner or OeBB Scotty websites. However, there is this morning(30/08). So the train may appear on the Interrail planner in due course. I assume it is the same timetable feed for these planners.

I believe, if you are using the online Interrail, you can manually enter the train details of trains that are not listed into the app. to validate your journey (assuming IRs are valid for the journey you are making). Not done myself yet as I prefer the printed version because of the number of journeys per day I tend to make. So double check this bit.

Can confirm the 10.15 from Gothenburg to Oslo is running today as I am on it. A quick word with the guard before departure confirmed that Interrail global passes are indeed valid (without reservation at least at the moment) and this was also confirmed by on board announcements. I suppose the moral of the story is not to take what the Interrail planner app says as gospel and double check with the train operators website as well.

The Gothenburg - Oslo trains are now showing in the latest update of the Eurail/Interrail app. I am on one right now.
