Valid one month? What does that mean exactly?

An open return ticket is meant to be valid for one month. What exactly does that mean as it doesn't seem to define what one month is anywhere. Some people on here have said it means one calendar month which I guess would be the calendar month in which the ticket became valid, but others say it's 30 days. Which is it? And what happens in Feb on a leap year?

A ticket bought today would be valid until 14 Mar. It's always valid for one month, so 8 May would be valid until 7 Jun.

As Mojo says it's a calendar month. So you buy a ticket in February then it's tough!

The term "open" traditionally means valid for 1 month, however the waters were 'muddied' by Thetrainline and the term is no longer used as part of an official name for tickets.

There is no such thing as an "Open Return" any more. A ticket can be described as "open" but the person calling it that may have a different definition to what you expect, so be cautious.

If you have a particular ticket or journey in mind, we can provide more information.
