I have zero interest in video games. On the PC I prefer something like scrabble word games, or (for light relaxation) "patience style" card games. In the past, I tried computer chess, but their algorithms were far too clever for my standard of chess.

I had chess on my old computer, but was so difficult, and started taking the p, so in the end I played myself! I also had backgammon, and boy, I was a super master at it!

Anyone else have Space Pinball (whatever it's called) on their PC? I used to, and that was all I needed to get through the day!

I've managed to beat the computer once at chess, I was that excited about doing it I nearly knocked my computer off the desk. In real life I'm not that great at chess if I'm honest, but it's the taking part that counts.

I haven't got Space Pinball on this laptop, but I have some fond memories of playing it in my free time at primary school. I managed to get the best score (it wasn't beaten in the time before I left to go to high school) in my Year 6 class, something I was rather proud of at the time!

Funnily enough I have a 90s-era pinball machine back home, albeit long-time OOU (needs the sound card replacing), and I'm aware of at least one machine in use within Sheffield.

Mario Kart '6' is an abomination made worse by the fact that so many people still own it.

It's not half bad. Best selling racing game with over 30 million out there! If you master all the races, easy and hard (Rainbow Road, I'm looking at you), then I think you'll do fine.

The thing that makes people turn away from that game is the fact that it relies on luck too much. Can't really do much when Waluigi keeps tossing over 9000 red shells at you, putting you at last in a matter of nanoseconds. Then there's Rosalina stalking you on every competition...

That's exactly it. Last time I played with my friends, every time I pulled out a lead, they sent those wretched blue shells after me. Especially since they had changed the item mode to 'Frantic'...

I've grown to like Mario Kart 8 much better, however the friends of mine who own a Wii U spend 99% of their time on Smash Bros!

My computer? It's a Bally pinball machine I was on about, System 11C if that means anything

... and it was roughly when I got my PS4 about two-and-a-half years ago I discovered the world of PC simulation.

That prompted a memory. A friend of mine was very into his aircraft sims, owning a selection of Microsoft Flight Simulator titles. (I joined him in some IL2turmovik sorties now and again.) One one occasion, while speaking with him on the phone, he asked me out of the blue "How do you fly a helicopter?" Turns out he was bored of fixed-wing aircraft. My advice was enough to get him airborne and flying about, and he later set about trying to land on top of one New York's skyscrapers. He maneuvered into position, gently lowered the craft, and suddenly exploded. It turns out the collision detection software was written with high-speed airplanes in mind, and assumed that if you make contact with a building, at any speed, you must have crashed.

On another sortie in late 2001/early 2002 (with all the sensitivity of a pair of teenage lads) I watched him fly a Learjet toward the Twin Towers. He lost his nerve, and started to pull up, just about flying between the towers. He looped the loop, and came back down, threading between the towers for a second time! Having ended the sim session in a more conventional manner, we discovered he had the simulator recorder off at the time.

My wife is particularly fond of MaroKart Double Dash (Gamecube). She likes asking me to do the driving, so she can concentrate on flinging stuff at the other drivers!

Oh yes, those blue shells! I get a headache just thinking about them! I was way in the lead once, so I said to myself "I bet a blue shell will come after me", and so it did! Then that POW blocks struck...:cry: That mess seems to be sorted out on the later games.

The POW block and the lighting is worse on a particular race with mushrooms in it...

Super Smash Bros.? I've been on that game on that game on one of my friend's 3DS. It was my first go, but I was still great, watch me!!

System 11C? By Namco? It's based on PlayStation hardware, so I reckon you could get a used one on eBay and solder on a 'new' sound CPU, if you have the skill. Or maybe you could get someone to do it for you!

Nah, it's Williams/Bally pinball-specific hardware. I know my machine needs a new board which I can get hold of quite easily. There's a French-designed "plug-and-play board" called PinSound which I have recently discovered - in case there are any other pinball enthusiasts on this forum. I just haven't had the time to do it yet.

PC - Best to play most games.

OpenTTD | Open source wonders. Get involved, join in, contribute, and try to solve that overcrowding problem on the mainline.

Rollercoaster Tycoon 1-3 | Chris Sawyer strikes again!

OpenBVE - Great realism, crappy graphics usually.

Watchdogs 2 - Great to mess around with people.

Watchdogs - Good concept, scummy protagonist.

GTA - Illegal fun. (MI5 is looking at me through my camera lens as I type this.

DTG Train Sim - Rubbish, please steer clear of their crap.

Faster Than Light - Much fun, but so frustrating.

Minecraft - Creativity through blocks.

ETS2 - Calming when there's no traffic.

Surgeon simulator - Sorry I killed you Bob, needed that 10 second death achievement.

Nintendo games - Immense childish satisfaction, wish I still had my DSi.

Terraria - Can't continue it because of the spiders.

GMod - For the occasional doesn't make sense type shenanigans.

Lego games - More childish fun.

Trainz - Don't buy it.

Prison architect - Immense hours of enjoyment.

Infinite flight - If I can't figure out how to play this properly, how am I supposed to move on to FSX?

OMSI - Glitchy crashy realism.

Mini Metro - Just play it.

Never really been one for playing computer games on any format but I have one recommendation for people on here and that is Mini Metro. So simple. So effective. So damn addictive

Prison Architect - "completed it mate". Fantastic game though, I need to try out the 2.0 update again at some point.

Mini Metro - I thought I could draw tube maps, this proved me wrong.

My wife is particularly fond of MaroKart Double Dash (Gamecube). She likes asking me to do the driving, so she can concentrate on flinging stuff at the other drivers!

Never tried the cooperative mode, my sisters always wanted to do the driving themselves and so do I! I'm planning to set up a GameCube for my birthday celebrations in a few weeks, though I'm thinking mainly for WarioWare and anything that isn't Smash.

That's the charm of PC gaming. You can add a wide variety of mods to make a very exciting experience, adding replay value.

Many of you might have heard of Minecraft, and boy, that game got modded to death...!

I'm really looking forward to it, although I won't be able to get one until a fair while after the launch. I am slightly worried about the size of the controllers when used on their own, given that I have fairly large hands and they really didn't look all that big, but the idea of being able to take my console games out with me when I'm out of the house is very appealing to me (although will inevitably end up as a source of conflict between me and the other half, given that we'll both be wanting to use it!).

As for the games games revealed so far, the ones I'm most looking forward to are Splatoon 2 (really glad that it wasn't just done as a port of Splatoon 1, which would give very little incentive to buy it) - if it's anywhere near as good as 1, I'll be spending an absolutely insane amount of time on it, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - again, I've spent an absolutely insane amount of time on the previous games in the series, and I've got very high expectations of this one.

Yeah, I agree. The size of the Joy-Con Controllers are, well, size-y. I would probably have them attached to the attachable game pad most of the time

I never had a Wii U, so never had a shot on those game series, but hopefully (after a long think), I'll get the Switch and have a go! Meanwhile, I also look forwards to MK8 Deluxe, SMO, as well as that new Sonic game.
