Hi. Just joined and hoping I am in the right place to get some information.

I'm interested in finding out about late 1950s to around 1966 Newcastle upon Tyne buses, specifically...

1. Bus ticket machines. Would they have been using Setright MkI? I have a vague memory of this type being used. I've also seen some later models with rows of 'sliders' on the front. MKI seems to fit with my memory, but then I remember my mother, who was a conductress at Byker Shields Road depot, often bringing home spare rolls for the kids to play with and seem to recall these were price pre-printed, so I'm confused.

2. What tickets would have been used then and would they have been printed along the sides with 'Newcastle PTA'?

3. Would the Newcastle PSV badge have been AA?

Finally, are there any resources out there, books, DVDs, museums, and so forth, to get more information about the history of Newcastle buses/trolleybuses about pre-1966?

Tyne and Wear PTE (and Newcastle Corporation before them I think.....) used the 'Ultimate' ticket machine, whereas the National Bus Companies (Northern General Transport and United Automobile Services) used the Setright MK1. As Byker Depot was the Corporation back then you would have got the Ultimate ticket rolls with the prices printed on. If you went on a 'National' bus you would see the Setright machines.

Later the Almex A was used by both PTE and Northern, the PTE also used the Almex E before going 'digital'

Great, thanks! I'll start to research this a bit more now.

Do you have any idea which Ultimate (that is Bell company, I take it?) model/s would have been used around approx late 1950s to 1965 and how many ticket units it would have had? I mean, are there mk I, mk II versions like Setrights?

Also, from when was the Almex A used by Ncle Corporation?
