Virgin Atlantic Meals?

I am travelling in April from MAN to Orlando with VA for a works "outing".
The outgoing flight is 11:00. Return 21:30
I am curious to know what meals I will get. Is the return flight too late for dinner? I checked the website but it isn't clear to me. I could wait and see but I wondered if anybody knew.

With my knowledge of many flights over to the States: Outbound you will be served lunch service with a light snack before landing in Orlando. Inbound to the UK you will be given dinner shortly after take off with a breakfast service before landing back in the UK as your flight is a red eye.

Many thanks for that. I was wondering about dinner seeing as it will be so late - but not too late for me.

In 2023 I was on a VS departure from JFK scheduled at 23.00, actual departure closer to 01.00 and they still served dinner after take off.

I asked this about going to South Africa and they basically said yes, on all flights a meal is served an hour or so after takeoff, regardless of what time that is.

My own experience of Virgin (out Heathrow to JFK, back Miami to Heathrow) is that the catering out of the UK is significantly better. Heathrow to JFK was a decent barbecue chicken dish, then an ice lolly as a mid-flight snack, then an afternoon tea box.

The return was a sad looking pasta dish and a rather dry muffin with yoghurt before landing. In fairness I don't think this is specific to them - my experience of Air Canada was similar - decent enough out of Heathrow, not particularly edible out of Toronto!

I take the route regularly- food is definitely served.

With all the replies, I think I can be pretty confident now that food will be served :D
I am ok with dinner at 22:20 or so.
Just a pity they had to move the flight back 2' 20" from originally booked though.

Sample menus can be found on the virgin website, as well as more information about the food and drink offering.

You certainly won't get any Beef as "beardy" banned it for Environmental Reasons.

Flying obviously is less harmful than a few Cows munching grass.

I flew with Virgin Atlantic from London to Miami and back earlier this year, and I can report that you definitely won't go hungry and that the food was pretty decent.

Beef is only “banned” in economy, it’s worth remembering!

When I'm choosing a meat, beef isn't first on the list for me anyway.

So not LNER sized portions then?

The main meal itself is probably a similar size to an LNER portion, maybe slightly bigger/more calorific. But when you then add to it the little starter, bread roll, dessert pot, cheese and crackers it's definitely more substantial if you eat it all. You then also get another lighter meal served and also another midflight snack (an ice lolly of some description was one from memory). I was also impressed by the quality of the onboard meals, I had bangers and mash outwards and I think some Chicken Enchilada thing on the return.

This was my main meal earlier this week on a VA LHR > JFK flight. Certainly didn't need anything else after polishing that little lot off!

  • Bread roll + butter
  • Cheese and biscuits
  • Pasta bake
  • Salad
  • Chocolate dessert

My first ever long-haul flight was last week, Heathrow to Seattle with Virgin. I was very impressed by the food!

- Main meal about an hour in, the same items as the post above
- Oreo chocolate ice cream sandwich (this was very large)
- Cheese toastie service
- Afternoon tea
- a packet of love hearts just before landing

And on top of that, multiple drinks rounds throughout the flight. I didn’t really know what to expect, but I was delighted with what I was given.

Yesterday afternoon returned to USA on VS109 Manchester to Atlanta and I had Cumberland sausage, mash, carrots with a bread roll, small salad and a nice desert and cheese and biscuits.

I've just found out my outgoing options will be honey and mustard chicken or the Cumberland sausage.
I will have a think as I'd have both.

If you are unfortunate as being late in the service round and there is a run on one particular choice there may be no option.
You can of course pre book a vegetarian or vegan meal and will be served before the general run.

I will be annoyed if whatever I choose isn't what I get.

The chicken I had going out yesterday was hot, the salad and bread roll freezing cold so I added the salad to the chicken to warm it up and eat the roll near the end.

Wow, that's a contrast! Where were you flying to? I'm having issues with their site adding the points from Vietnam airlines to VA. The customer service in this department sucks.

My return meal will be later than expected. When I booked, the flight from MCO was 19:00, shortly after changed to 21:20 and now further put back to 22:10

At least I enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at the Disney parks!
