Hi I'm really wanting a career working on virgin trains as a customer service host not sure if that is the correct title but I would love to become a member of the team. I'm just wondering if anyone works for virgin and can give me some advice on what it is like and any information on how to apply as I don't know where to start. I have signed up for vacancy alerts but wondered if I could do anything else to increase my chances. I would love to hear from anyone who works on board thanks

There are currently external vacancies for on-board customer hosts based in Edinburgh right now with LNER. But it depends what area you live in and what stations are the closest to you.

Did it for a year, still the most fun job I've ever had!

In terms of what you can do to help yourself - what kind of employment history do you have? They love people with customer service backgrounds but they're big into outgoing friendly personalities so it's good if you show that too. I was working as a waiter when I got in, and I also did volunteer work with the elderly so I had a few boxes ticked.

Whereabouts are you based? Virgin have staff up and down the WCML but some depots are bigger then others, so have more jobs.

I have to qualify everything with the fact it's 6 years now since I left the job and 5 years since I left Virgin (for another TOC) so I don't want to say too much about the job itself - but it's safe to assume it's still very long hours (41 hour week for full time staff was the norm then and your shift could be over 12 hours long) and requires a lot of team work as well as excellent customer service skills - but like I said before, it's also an awful lot of fun, and there are times when I do miss it

I have 10 years experience in customer service and nvq level 2 and 3 in customer service. I currently work in an office for a rail company in liverpool but was wanting a change in career. When I've looked into this it sounds like something I would love to do. I've looked on their website but no vacancies at the moment I'm just wondering if they advertise anywhere else or if there are any similar jobs for other TOC.
