It seems that Coach D on the VT Super Voyagers is different to the other standard coaches-the seats look more like 1st class seats and there seem to be more tables-when travelling in standard on these trains I always try to get a seat in Coach D as it seems more comfortable-is there a reason for the differences and do others find it better in Coach D on the Super Voyagers.

Dont they have an extra 1st class coach on certain runs? So in that case, would this be the extra 1st class coach declassified?

Just checked. Yep, coach D is a duel use 1st/ standard coach with shop apparently. On North Wales services it is an extra 1st class coach, whilst on Anglo Scottish runs it is a standard class coach. Having not paid much attention to them, is it 2 by 2 seating, or 2 by 1 that you saw?

It's 2 + 2 seating which is the reason that I thought that it wouldn't be declassified 1st-also not sure that the seats are as wide as 1st class seats.

It is much better than the other coaches however-not sure but wasn't there a Club Class when VT first started out-or was this just 1st Class with a different name-if it was an extra class that could be the the Coach D configuration. Also was travelling with 1st ticket on a Super Voyager between Preston and London and was disappointed that my seat reservation was for Coach D so moved to Coach E-think it coupled with another train and had Coach L as 1st Class so was 10 coach train.

Also that day was disappointed as breakfast was just a warmed up bacon sandwich not usual breakfast!

On Tuesday was travelling from Carlisle to Preston on the Scotland to Birmingham service and Coach D was standard so guess it's just on the Preston to London services that there are 2 coaches is 1st but not sure of the times.

My understanding is that coach D is just standard seats reconfigured to be all tables.

This is used as first on the London trains and standard on the Birmingham ones.

I found the wifi is free in coach D, which can be useful ;)

I regularly travel on the 0810 Euston to Bangor. Coach D is first class (and pretty full at least part of the way) on this train. Coming South I usually change at Chester onto the 1935 Euston train. I aim to sit in coach D which is now standard class (though with a few first class table mats kicking around to cause confusion).

This revised seating was put into effect in order to increase the amount of First Class on specific trains
It really is a con to First Class ticket holders, but a great surprise to those with Standard tickets
Equally, it can be confusing when used as First Class
