At one time the word "weekdays" meant Mondays to Saturdays inclusive.

The Oxford English Dictionary suggests that this usage ended with the coming of the twentieth century, but I seem to remember it continued in BR timetables into the 1960s or even early 70s.

Does anyone know exactly when BR stopped using it?

I have some old WTTs from the 80's (youngest being around 1986) they are all Mon - Sat with Sundays on a separate listing.

EWD - Every weekday, i.e. Monday-Saturday inclusive
SX - Every weekday except Saturdays
These are still standard timetabling terms which refer to the historic 6-day week. So in theory, it’s never gone away.

I was wondering more about main headings in public timetables. When was Weekdays replaced as a heading by Mondays to Saturdays?

Of course the question is only applicable to tables that are divided between one part for Mon-Sat and another part for Sunday.
