Were the doors on first generation DMUs lighter than those on loco-hauled Mark 1 stock?
I always thought that DMU doors sounded lighter when they were being slammed shut than those on Mark 1 coaches.
Southern Region EMU doors sounded as heavy as those on loco-hauled Mark 1s. Some AC overhead EMUs, such as the Class 304s, had doors that sounded more like DMU doors, though.
