Does anyone know whether SWR driver route knowledge is held to periodically get DMUs trapped East of the incident around to Salisbury for maintenance/refueling? My understanding was all facilities are at Salisbury for the 159s. Could be very tricky if not, but I'm not aware of services running Reading to Westbury (unless ECS)?

An RTT path appeared and run yesterday 5Z51 Southampton Central - Salisbury depot via Reading and Newbury. Not sure how it was crewed. Interestingly it was down as an XC path but that could be an error with the data.

They will organise something, so don't worry; if you are delayed by 30+ minutes as a result you will be eligible for delay compensation.
Thanks, I will probably still book. Besides, I'm not in a rush, so a delay isn't a problem.

I noted SWR line shown to Reading on map. What service is this?

SWR run from Waterloo to Reading local services, also a limited service Salisbury to Reading via Basingstoke, obviously the latter can't run currently.

A while back (way before the pandemic) I noticed a number of Sunday runs from Salisbury to Reading via Andover. Not sure how that came about but a great idea. If some commuter services like that ran it would really help job access options... not sure if that was on the cards as an aspiration.

A bit of a technical fares question - but if anyone can help would be appreciated. Ticket acceptance is in place for GWR. My next journey is Cranbrook to Plumstead next Thursday. Expecting nothing will change by then, so expecting it will be a case of via Exeter St Davids and Paddington as per my last journey. However, it's a super off peak ticket - I think SWR and GWR have somewhat different super off peak time restrictions. Would it depend on the SWR timings from my original ticket, or would the prevailing GWR time restrictions take precedence if I use GWR on ticket acceptance?

It was put in the Sunday morning and afternoon timetable to provide additional capacity towards London (via Reading) during the period on Sunday that paths into Waterloo are reduced for maintenance, and at that time not all Basingstoke to Reading GW paths are used. There is a weekday late evening route learner as well.

Running it in weekday peaks or Saturdays is a not really a practical idea at all, and would not have been an aspiration. Having said that a few services were operated to Reading during the 2017 Waterloo remodelling, but I don’t believe they could fit in with the latest GWR IEP and Crossrail timetable and platforming.

Last bus from Basingstoke towards Salisbury seems to be 20;50 looking at journey check. That's quite early in my eyes (normally the last train is after midnight)

Last bus going the other way is at 21;40.

To/from Eastleigh is at 22;55.

Are SWR trying to save money by cutting back on the buses and will leave passengers high and dry when they arrive at Basingstoke after that last bus?

It still says "If you have paid for your own taxi to travel due to this disruption, then this can be claimed back from South Western Railway's Customer Services team here." on National Rail service disruption page. I personally will be going via GWR for as long as the acceptance is in place

Having acceptance on GWR doesn't help folk who want Andover.

Looking on NRE it's a similar time tomorrow night. Last bus at 20;50 connecting with the 19;18 from Waterloo. Looks like I will need to speak with LNER to take an earlier train from Wakefield tomorrow (currently due into London around 19;05)

Edit - Nope, got told to rebook for an earlier train and claim a refund for my original ticket. So thanks SWR you have cost me at least £15 trying to get home tomorrow night, as I strongly suspect the SWR at Basingstoke will just chin me off.

That’s what I imagined, but they are still calling at Basingstoke at the moment, so maybe that will change and they will go via Guildford
Cross Country are running via Guildford today (seems to be Reading to Basingstoke closed), so presumably will do the same next weekend if Laverstock lines haven't reopened. It's a fairly frequent diversion for them.

Yes, I have diverted that way before, so I would imagine so.

RTT is now showing XC running via the SWML to/from Eastleigh all day next Sunday. Has that just been uploaded?

Anyone know what unit this was?

I was only responding to the previous poster's comment, I hadn't checked RTT.

No worries, looking back through the whole thread it looks as if it must have been changed since Friday whenever it was done. Next Saturday still shows via Laverstock though…

158883 and 158884 were noted in the main Salisbury incident thread.

Presumably it'll all be dependent on the progress of the relaying operation. No doubt NR will have a detailed programme by now, but they're always at risk from the unexpected (I was a planning engineer in earlier times).
