Can anyone confirm a couple of things regards the above ticket please?

Am I correct in that it can only be issued by staffed stations in West Yorkshire?

Am I also correct in that there is no PRIV discount?

Many thanks.

www.nationalrail.co.uk would indicate the answer to the first question to be yes (other than Bradford Interchange and some Yorkshire bus stations).

It may or may not be correct.

They can also be purchased at Meadowhall, Doncaster and Barnsley ticket offices. They usually have special Metro ticket stock.

I wasn't able to buy one from Sheffield last time I asked.

Only the Train only version is supposed be sold by the conductor when boarding at an unstaffed Station. The Day Ranger ticket was on the Northern conductors ticket machine but I found that bus drivers would not accept it as it did not state 'Bus', which is why they have to be printed from the ticket office.

The train and bus doesn't technically require the special stock (i.e. it can be printed on non-specialised stock), however bus drivers are extremely reluctant to accept it if they don't see the special stock. Even then they sometimes squint for a few seconds.

You can have problems with bus acceptance using the train & bus version if it's issued on orange stock, but I find that if you show such a ticket immediately after another passenger has shown one on the correct stock, it is almost never queried.

I do not know if they can be issued on till roll stock, but even if you can, it may be unwise.

No PRIV discount.

It is beyond me why they can't load these on a MCard yet, which would happily be accepted by bus drivers! All you would need is the MCard top up machines in pretty much all the major bus stations to print a rail stock counterpart for the trains, rail TVMs can already do this for season ticket MCard top ups!

Or better still ensure all TOCs can read the MCards so that no counterpart would be necessary. This would mean that not only Day Rovers but all season tickets could be bought not only from TVMs but NFC capable devices. Metro keep promising this will be a future feature for their Mcard app so I hope to see this some day!

It's a sad state of affairs when passengers are having to be advised that, although they hold a perfectly valid ticket, that they will likely encounter problems actually using it.

This is far from unusual sadly.

Yet PlusBus is on ordinary stock without problems.

It would be nice if Mcards could be topped up at Ticket Machines.
Dewsbury's hasn't ben able for YEARS.
I don't use them myself, but have been told a huge percentage don't work.

I've used the machines at Leeds, and occasionally Guiseley for the last couple of years without any problems (save the counterpart once not printing). I haven't yet used the new larger screen versions yet, mainly because I usually think on to renew as I'm passing through Leeds, so i can't comment on those but I have noticed that they do have an MCard option on the starting screen.
