Hello all. The TFL website offers two Oyster / contactless fares from Westferry (DLR) to Kew Bridge, one avoiding Zone 1 (via Overground between Shadwell and Clapham Junction), and the other through Zone 1 (most obviously via the Waterloo and City Line). Given that both routes involve travel via Shadwell and Clapham Junction, I am wondering how the system knows which fare to charge. Are there separate gatelines for DLR and ELL at Shadwell? Or would one need to find a pink Oyster Reader somewhere on the Overground route?

Shadwell National Rail <> Shadwell DLR is an out of station interchange (OSI), so providing you tap back in within the appropriate time frame it will count as one journey at the appropriate rate for travel via Shadwell.

Edit: you have 15mins. Source: http://www.oyster-rail.org.uk/osi-list/ (MikeWh's website)

Shadwell has separate gatelines, yes.

(Or more precisely gateline for LO, standalone readers for DLR.)

You only ever need to find a Pink Oyster reader if the Single Fare Finder explicitly says so, and in this case it doesn't mention it.

And yes there are effectively two different gatelines at the two Shadwell stations, ELL and DLR - I say effectively as the DLR station, like most DLR stations, doesn't have a gateline, but standalone Oyster readers.

Travelling via Shadwell, you need to exit one station, cross the road and walk along the street though only a very short distance and then head into the other station - so touch-out, then touch-in.
