Hi

What happened to this fantastic direct no stopping service from Warrington Bank Quay to London Euston?

I was on this service July last year and the journey took 1hr 44 mins.

Did Avanti dropped this service when they took over or the service is suspended temporarily by the covid19?

Cheers

It's COVID related. Stops have been inserted to replace stops in the North Wales service which isn't running at present.

In addition to that, the journey is ca.2hrs 45 to 2hrs 55 this weekend specifically due to the engineering works between Rugby and Stafford, Avanti diversions via the West Midlands all weekend.

FWIW the main reason for the omission of a Crewe stop in the fast Scottish services is that it would cause overcrowding on what are Avanti's busiest services. While numbers are down the stop might as well be inserted anyway due to the connectivity benefits it provides.

Thanks guys.

Hopefully this service resume in the future. A great way to London for a day trip as i live near Warrington and could park nearby for free

Other than the engineering works noted above it still is, it just takes about 5 minutes longer. I don't think that's going to kill its viability off! :)

It’s a bit more than an extra 5 minutes. The down service to Glasgow departs in the path of the xx10 to Chester, and has a load of pathing time inserted such that by the time it as Wigan it is in its original path xx30 off Euston.

Ah, fair enough, that's quite a slowdown. Bet it's quite punctual, though!

Now that explains it! I was wondering how one additional station stop could slow the Glasgows down by so much, then I checked on RTT and saw all the pathing time. Thanks for the explanation!

Are you sure you didn't see the "via Birmingham" one there? There are two per hour, one via Birmingham and one down the Trent Valley. The Birmingham one takes about an hour longer.

We're in the short period where hardly any key workers are going to London yet hardly any businesspeople are going either. Faster trains to London are therefore less important. Hopefully in September the 1h45 service will be reinstated. Avanti have already reinstated all 3tph to Manchester, some of which are very nearly as quick as under the normal timetable.

A lot of the patching and extra time, is because the 00.10 to chester/North Wales, is a Super Voyager, so timed slightly slower than a Pendolino and also stops Milton Keynes, so at the moment the 00.10 Pendolino to Glasgow, which runs in it path, has the same timings as if it stopped Milton Keynes, which it doesn’t, and runs slightly slower to Crewe, then north of Crewe any extra extra time, is to slot into its original path.
