Travelling from Leicester to Bournemouth today via Birmingham. Got cheap advance first tickets on a fixed time train. One change at Birmingham.

BUT.. problems are showing regarding a broken down train.

IF my train is late into Birmingham what can I do if I miss my connection?

Thanks for any advice - it would be helpful to know what to do anyway even if the problem clears today, so that I know for future reference.

Do you have 1 ticket Leicester-Bournemouth, with reservations on two trains? If so that's fine - if your first train is delayed and you miss your connection, you can take later trains from the same Train Operating Company (and others if advised to do so by staff on the ground).

If you have purchased seperate Leicester-Birmingham and Birmingham-Bournemouth Advances then you are only covered if you have allowed for the Minimum Connection Time at Birmingham (12 mins).

Thanks it's one ticket from Leicester to Bournemouth. I THINK (??) it's all with Cross Country Trains.

And the time for connection at Birmingham is about 25 minutes.

Would I need to go to the ticket office at B'ham for them to somehow endorse the tickets?

You should be absolutely fine without the endorsement, particularly if it's all with one company.

Related question.
I am on the 11:48 from Leicester to B'ham. Any idea roughly which platform I would arrive on in Birmingham?
Also any idea which platform I would depart from in Birmingham to Bournemouth (13:04 depart).

Only rough ideas. I do realise things change.

Finally are there lifts to all platforms?

Many thanks

Connection at Birmingham New Street has to be 12 minutes (unless you are transfering to another Birmingham Station - which I don't think you are).

There is no requirment whatsoever to have a ticket endorced - indeed my experience has been that staff do not like endorcing tickets. (maybe because it committs them to something)

Arrival will be 8-12, departure will be from a small numbered platform (1-6). You cannot cross between the two at the A-end of the platform (unless leaving from 6) so make sure you use the B-end. You will be arriving at the A-end. Ignore the first set of escalators and stairs, walk along the platform to get to the B-end.
