What makes some trains have squeaky brakes?

Quite a few trains out there have ridiculously screechy brakes! and its not just the old ones!

The 142s screech like mad, but what else could you expect...but the 175s and 180s are also real bad for it. But other trains of a similar age are silent. The 323s breaks are pretty much silent!

Is it just poor quality brakes? Is something wrong with them?
