That's the one. As soon as I saw your name in the bar at the bottom I thought you'd get it.

My dad drove it on Tuesday and asked if I wanted to come for a ride on it. Not exactly practical when I've had assignments due left, right and centre this week - but with that period now over...

Snce the pass was introduced every source I've seen has indicated Uxbridge. However, my father has recently been telling me that it is now accepted right through. I shall have a quick gander and see if I can find out.

Hmm. I can't actually find anything to back up my theory. Everything suggests the pass is valid everywhere.

I wonder if I was getting mixed up with the intercounty nature of the route disallowing different passes in countywide scheme days...

Do they run the 14, and if yes how long and cheap is it? More to the point, is it the 14?

Note I said "14" and not "X14".

Nope, but you're very close in terms of the route taken. The service number in question used to apply to the service that run through to Gloucester.

In that last clue I guess you are referring to the old Stagecoach Cymru Service 73 that ran Newport - Chepstow - Lydney - Gloucester.

Therefore I guess 73 Newport - Chepstow.

Assuming I am right I will offer this clue:

The bus I am thinking of runs from Newport and takes just shy of an hour to reach a place that, when rearranged, is an able no. Serves several towns en-route including one important shopping destination. Some of the fares could perhaps be described as absurdly high.

That's the one. (Finally) :)

What's an able number when it's at home?

That sounds like Stagecoach X24 from Newport to Blaenavon

Well done: absolutely right.

"an able no" rearranged is Blaenavon and the important shopping destination is Cwmbran. The remark about fares being expensive stems from experience of using this service. The last time I got a bus from Newport to Abersychan the fare was about £4.90 single and I once heard a young man being charged £6.10 for a return from Cwmbran to Pontypool which, IMO, sounds way too high.

Without meaning to sound picky or similar, your anagram clue - though novel - doesn't work. It is lacking the "v".

I had noticed that, but decided it was Blaenavon anyway.

Right: my first attempt at setting a question on this thread.

This route runs from Dumfries and takes over twice as long to reach its destination as the more direct route and there are few through journeys anymore.

This would be the 372 to Dalbeattie via Southerness.

Last time I looked it was run by Stagecoach and DG Buses (the council). Houstons Coaches ran the same route, but with number 825.

Predereg it was run by Carruthers of New Abbey, and more recent operators have included Peacocks of Locharbriggs and MacEwans.

372 Dumfries to Dalbeattie via Southerness is the right answer, and a fine bus route it is too.

OK. This service in the north of England links a small town (with a local service on a main rail route) with two other small towns that both used to be terminii of branch lines - one of which has become very famous through appearing in a long running TV series. Recently the route has been extended at the western end up the opposite side of the valley to the top of the hill. It also now performs a loop as a local service in this town (in one direction only).

Service is horuly Mon - Sat with no service on Sundays
