Who remembers the old Bus station and depot at Whitley Bay? When I visited in 1993, it was open, but when I returned in 1999 it was shut. When did it close, and where di the work go to?

And for those not in the know, both it, and the adjoining post office building got flattened, and a shopping centre built on the site.

Geordie back from exile.
I remember it very well, going to and from the coast on the 308 and calling into the bus station there. I could never be bothered walking up to the Metro station so took the bus as it was much easier. I can't recall exactly when it closed but if it was open in 1993 then I would suggest late 1993 - early 1994. I moved away from the area in 1994 and remember it closing and the buses then stopping outside on the main road. I'm guessing the work of the depot went to Blyth, or even Jesmond.

As an aside, just think of the bus stations in Newcastle that have closed. Marlborough Crescent, Worswick Street, Gallowgate Coach Station and the parking area at Morden Street. Eldon Square and Haymarket are still there just slightly different.

I vaguely remember it as a kid, along with Worswick Street and the old coach station. Wonder how long it will be before Haymarket gets replaced by a new one. Hopefully the glass in the roof will not fall out again!
