Why are people so defensive when asked to sit in the window seat?

Oh yeah, 130 miles.

I thought we were all trying to do what we can to prevent this thing spreading. Including keeping a good distance between ourselves and others.
Sorry, the bit about the taxi was partially tounge-in-cheek, but still - why are you so reluctant to move yourself?

Because I was there first, I am doing the right thing, and don't wish to drag my luggage through a train that may by now be filling up.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) said:

  • Seats are reservation only
  • One person to every two rows to leave a two-metre gap (one row in First Class)
  • Sit at a window seat
  • Use alternate sides of the train
  • Don't face others
  • Wear a mask
Those travelling as a household can sit together, LNER added.

Is that actually allowed under the present climate?
Quite common on local routes to Enfield, Cheshunt, Chingfield and Shenfield, especially the latter. I had a single 317 on the 1610 Stansted Express, every seat taken, though 75% got off at Harlow. The single 379 on the 1612 Hertford looked just as bad. No way to stop it on DOO trains.
