Why does it take a long time for the doors to open on a Class 333?

I travelled recently on the line from Leeds to Skipton and at every station the train came to a stop, waited a few seconds, then one door opened for the guard to get out, then the rest of the doors opened. Why is this? It took about 20-30 seconds from the train stopping to the doors opening!

Because guards have to check that it is safe for passengers to alight ?

It’s not that unusual a problem, it often gets asked about in relation to 350s, 450s, 444s. They all normally have a pause while the guard checks the platform.
