But on todays railways, it is all about cramming in as many people as you can, if that means using underfloor engines rather than loosing 30 seats in a driving vehicle, then the manufacturers will do it! Unfortunately, storage of bulk luggage isn't something people are keen on, they like to keep an eye on their possessions, especially as the security announcements are always going on about it, and similarly for catering storage, there isn't a lot of that left any more, it's all about pre-prepared, microwave reheated food (or so it seems) and as for using shorter vehicles, thats still lost passenger space, even if it is only 5 metres! That's about 4 rows of seats, or (assuming they are all advance fares £25, standard class 2+2) at least £400 per journey, possibly more!

Ps. Perhaps the mods could move these last couple of posts to the IEP master thread, or whatever it is now, seeing as we have drifted a far way from tilting now - something that seems to always happen when the IEP comes up!

The idea I hoped was implicit is that by using shorter leading and trailing vehicles, you can possibly fit in an extra trailer.
