WMT Trainee driver role questions.

Hi, I've been offered a trainee driver role at New St starting later this year and have a few questions about working for WMT as a trainee and as a qualified driver.

1) Does the salary definitely go up after 9 months regardless of which stage of training you're at?
2) How are the facilities? Does everything work e.g simulators etc. is it very structured and methodical even after classroom training?
3) How does AL work as a driver? How many ad hoc days do you have and how is it getting leave as a trainee?
4) Will traction training be on all 3 traction used or just link dependant until moving on to other links?
5) Earliest start and latest finish times? Also are some shifts as a spare?
6) Do you get given parking at New St soon after starting?
7) As time goes on are there opportunities to internally transfer to other depots? (LNR as opposed to WMR)

If there is anything else trainees & drivers would like to add that would be greatly appreciated. I can understand that some of these questions may be sensitive to the business so open to PMs.

Thank you.

I can help with some of these….

1) yes although I think it’s based on 32 weeks after starting
2) the classroom training is very structured and the sim setup is pretty good although did have a few glitches while I trained there so didn’t all work every time
3) assuming it’s the same as LNR then 1 week spring, 2 summer and 1 winter block leave that’s set. Then 8 adhoc
4) not sure that will be depot specific
5) same again
6) I got parking within the first couple of weeks for my depot plus one more chosen station

Lastly congrats on the job! It’s a hard slog to get through it and you’ve probably beaten a long line of people to the role!

Andy.
