I think they're unlikely to be running Crownstrike. The issue isn't a Microsoft bug and doesn't affect Windows installations without that software installedI think our Trident missile submarines work off microsoft products

They used a highly specialised version of Windows 2000. Sadly for Putin I don't think this particular issue today is going to impact on the at sea deterrent.I think our Trident missile submarines work off microsoft products
This incident does seem somehow even worse than normal for spouting complete rubbish and blaming the wrong peopleI recommend that anyone who understands computers/IT does not watch the news, I can't watch supposed experts talk rubbish for too long.
TVMs I take it as the Ticlket Office TIS are Android. All ticket machines at my local SWR station are on a crash/reboot loop.
Presumably because the actual experts have higher priority things to do rather than talking to broadcasters...I recommend that anyone who understands computers/IT does not watch the news, I can't watch supposed experts talk rubbish for too long.
How long before the first thread in the disputes and prosecutions forum where some poor soul is being taken to court by the railway because they were unable to collect their tickets as a result of this?
There was an Azure issue overnight UK time, it was mostly mopped up by 5AM UTC, which seems to be about the time that the Crowdstrike update was pushed. There’s also a major Microsoft Azure issue going on.
I'd cancel any planned spacewalks for today, just in case.I use HAL 9000, should I be concerned?
Only if you're called DaveI use HAL 9000, should I be concerned?
Just open the pod bay doors HAL...I use HAL 9000, should I be concerned?
Soetimes know as Windows for Warships, a play on Windows for Workgroups. They used a highly specialised version of Windows 2000.
I'm baffled by the irony of a large cyber security firm causing one of the most wide spread security incidents that I've ever heard of.
It is if your security depends on that computer! This isn't a security incident, really. A computer that isn't running at all is as secure as you can get!!
Except at Merseyrail where they probably redeployed the entire company to Revenue Protection. Drivers, Train Planners, Mrs Jones the cleaning lady and the Managing Director will all be out doing PFs...If there are known issues nobody will be prosecuted.
Cyber security is essentially there to protect three things (if you take the perhaps outdated but widely accepted CIA triad) which are Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability - this is a very severe loss of the third element. Cyber Security is not just about preventing data from being stolen or changed - it extends to ensuring people can actually access their dataThis isn't a security incident, really. A computer that isn't running at all is as secure as you can get!!
DownDetector is a bit misleading today - lots of people are reporting issues against consumer brands when actually the problem is they can't get on their PC. So cash machines showing a blue screen end up getting reported as a VISA issue.VISA is having some massive issues in France according to DownDetector
Not service affecting but the ticket barriers at Rugby are open at the moment at both entrances, blue screen of death proudly on show on the controlling PCs next to them.Has anyone spotted many train services actually disrupted or it it just TVMs?
For example, media reporting TfW and Avanti affected but I can't see many issues on RTT or journeycheck
The BBC have found a greybeard who seems to know his stuff. The rest are, as you suggest, not much use.I recommend that anyone who understands computers/IT does not watch the news, I can't watch supposed experts talk rubbish for too long.
Someone in front of me in the supermarket had to wait 2-3 minutes for their contactless transaction to go through this morning. The next person used chip and pin and it went through immediately. I used cash, just in caseVISA is having some massive issues in France according to DownDetector
