So that’s ok then is it? Do you know the business and know they can use smaller equipment? This really is starting to sound desperate. Trains or bust isn’t the be all and end all of every town and village whether there was a railway there or not 50+ years ago!
I didn't say this would ever happen did I?!

Your previous post to this:-

So if they were extended north they would have to use smaller equipment.

You really need to remember what you’ve said previously.
I'll have to correct that sentence. So if they were extended north they might have to use smaller equipment.

Time to bow out gracefully, I fear!
I think we're well beyond that point.

If you are going to spend £250m on the Scarborough line, you'll do a lot more good by building a 2nd platform at Malton, Building new stations at Haxby and Strensall and then spending whatever's left on Linespeed improvements to offset the stop times.
In fact, it'd be less mad to spend the money you'd need to build to Pickering on a tunnel under Westow hill to cut off the big loop as the line follows the river Derwent south of Malton.

Wait... why not build a tunnel under Pickering? Once we've cleared all of the other properties off the former route, of course. Think big, people, think big.

None of us want to put you off having interesting discussions on the forum, but lots of people with many years of railway planning, operating and engineering experience between them have explained why such a scheme is never likely to happen....however much you or anyone else want it to. I think it may be time to move on now. (Apologies to Mods for sounding like one!).

Will it reopen? No...
Would it have been better if the trackbed was actually protected and not built all over at multiple points so such a scheme could be more realistic? Yes
The best/only realistic solution for this problem is a well timed bus that serves NYMR at Pickering and Flamingo Land with through ticketing and marketing.

You never know if it will reopen or not but I don't think it will reopen yet.

Very well then.

Cant we just build a Malton to Whitby base tunnel under the North York Moors, once the Tees Polyhalite mine tunnel is done we can use the TBM from that site. I can imagine an offer in the region of £17.50 will entice them to part with it.

Once electrified throughout you will be able to run HS2 trains direct from Euston.

These items have a statistically similar chance of occurring as reopening a pseudo tramway through the centre of Pickering.

I'm sure people thought about the Channel tunnel when first proposed in much the same way.

Wouldn't that be more expensive than reopening the former route between Malton and Pickering?

If Pickering To Malton reopened, there should be a new terminus for other trains while there is still a link to the NYMR so they can run from to Malton so other trains don't run on the NYMR.

Chap, I appreciate your determination amd enthusiasm, but those points have been dealt with, in detail, on the previous 8 pages of discussion.
It was an interesting topic and I learned a few things from it but we're just going round in circles now.
