Travelling on the 1930 XC service from Birmingham to Leeds this evening, we left BHM on time and the first stop should have been Derby. However, after being brought to a stand at Leicester Junction for several minutes, a special stop was made at Burton where a number of people got on.

The previous service, the 1919 local from Birmingham to Nottingham had arrived at Burton on time but (according to RTT) had stood there for five minutes. There may have been football fans returning from Burton to Sunderland but this was over two hours after the match had finished.

There must have been an issue at Burton, does anyone know what it was?

Service congestion in the Derby area caused by a points failure, so the 1919 was sent via Castle Donnington to Nottingham, skipping Derby.

Passengers for Derby on the 1919 were told to alight at Burton and await the following train.
