So presumably 4 x 8-450 and 1 x 10-707?
Sounds about right from what I can see

there will also be a 458 on the Kingston rounder and looks like most readings will be 458s. with the hounslow rounder peak time services out of use I'm assuming they're using the stock from those to cover the windsor and readings

But if the 456s still have miles left why not use those up…. Preserves some low mileage 455s a bit longer
Yes, that's what I meant. In my original post, I meant that 456s were still running despite the engineering work and a surplus of 455s. I'm sure they could have run a 455-only fleet that day but they didn't.

So there may still be 456s running this weekend too despite the engineering works. (note: I have no insider knowledge and am just speculating)

Worth adding that no Windsors are 707 at the moment.

It appears to have been 2 8-450, 2 8-455 and 1 10-458 for a long time, and the twelve 707s (five pairs out per day) have done four all day Shepperton diagrams, and one morning peak Shepperton diagram that then turns into a Weybridge diagram
yes but from next week 1 707 will be on the windsors again as sheppertons will be an hourly service

In regards to running out of miles what is the impact of this? Are there financial penalties incurred in exceeding the mileage? I assume these terms are set out in the lease agreements. To get a mileage increase does that require a unit overhaul?

Basically, exams are due based on either mileages run or elapsed time, with modest agreed safety tolerances. Once this point is reached, the unit is not cleared to operate and has to have whatever exam it is due. These units will be typically running out of miles on safety critical and fairly expensive components such as wheelsets. You can't exceed the mileages per se, and financial penalties don't apply as such.

Thank you. I should’ve realised safety was the key factor

Looking at RTT it you're indeed right. However it must have been a very recent thing as I saw a pair at Waterloo bound for Windsor a couple of weeks ago.

Personally I'd have thought it was better to use the 450s thrown up by the reductions in Basingstoke and Alton services on the Reading line, releasing the 458s for suburban services where the capacity over the 455s is really needed.

There was talk of 450s on the suburban side but it doesn’t seem to be the case, maybe if the timetable goes back to “normal” again that’s when we’ll see them

The problem with using 458s vice 455s on Main Suburban services is that not all crews sign 458s so it would have to be quite carefully planned.

U.455708 & U.455734 heading to Bournemouth Depot today from Strawberry Hill Depot on 5Z51,

Currently 22 late passing Southampton. Unsure whether they are for storage or work related.

Routine C4 work I believe after the usual path 5B39 never ran. Running as 5Z5x usually indicates a VSTP move organised by SWR control from experience.

One has 126,000 to C4 and the other 450,000 to C4, so it won't be that. They do both need D8 exams, the largest non-works exam on level 1-4 maintenance on a 455.

17/01 should be 8507 assume 18/01 is 8517

Would the staff at Bournemouth Depot be able to take on these D8 exams both units need and if they could, have got all the necessary
spare parts to do the work ?

Thanks, I'll probably attempt a last ride on them today (Saturday). I assume only 1 diagram today?
If it ends at Clapham, would it still be out on Sunday?

Still a few more diagrams to be allocated yet so wouldn't like to say for sure.

Afraid my knowledge doesn't extend ahead to Sunday.

Good god, I hope no one's reading this thread with limited mobile data  You do know there's a thumbnail option, right?

I feel a little sad to see them go. I liked having the unrefurbished pairs in Southern livery as my local train on the Ascot Guildford route for a couple of years half a decade or so ago. I can't believe it was 2014!
