London Underground ticket machines using old National Rail fares?

In a previous life, I spent some time doing trawls of journal articles and patents looking for evidence of prior art, to invalidate tech patents that had been registered speculatively by parent trolls. If anything, there was a very good appreciation of the way technology was likely to...

GWR - dispute for alternative travel expenses (industrial action)

So out of interest, did they respond?

London Underground ticket machines using old National Rail fares?

This is public money being spent. What were TfL thinking when they agreed to procure something so unfit for purpose? Did nobody have any foresight? Being able to update fares: these are basics, surely?! I understand they've been just as rigid and immovable with Oval, which you think would be a...

    Crosscountry free amendment questions

I'm not sure what qualifies a retailer as being "low cost-amendment" but TrainSplit will allow a Via point change when amending via the refund form, but the origin and destination and number of passengers must remain the same. The form should work on both desktop and mobile, as it uses...

What if: entitled to excess but staff physically cannot sell it

Leamington weren't interested in trying, despite an explanation. Just point blank refused. I then bought it in front of them and gave them a ToD collection code and they couldn't even print that. Disappointing experience all round. TVM did it without any fuss. Would very much agree it depends...

What if: entitled to excess but staff physically cannot sell it

Some staff TISs seem to much more restrictive than others. I can't understand preventing it being used to sell new tickets or issue excesses, though it's fair to say that due to the nature of the discount I suppose it's very rare that you would be asked to sell the discounted tickets in a...

First class cheaper than standard class?

A good TIS will do the passenger friendly thing and sell the first class fare for standard class journey search enquiries in this case, given that it's entirely legitimate to travel in a standard class seat with such a ticket

TOCs not releasing cheap Advance tickets

I think there are a wide variety of factors here. Sometimes it's discretionary and purely undertaken for leisure, yes - but our housing policy and even recruitment policy set by govt in civil service departments (usually as part of the so-called "Levelling Up" agenda) do create other...

TOCs not releasing cheap Advance tickets

I think something I would flag here is the complete lack of any transparency when it comes to yield management in the rail industry. My energy provider has an API that I can use to fetch real-time pricing information. I can also fetch historical pricing information for any given date/time. There...

Refunds to Oyster Web Account no longer available.

Was it really beyond to TfL to find half a day of engineering effort or so on a way for folks to save two pieces of data against their account to make this less of a faff? I genuinely think they're trying to make it as difficult as possible for end-users to use Oyster. This, on top of it being...

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

I believe from what I've heard that there's a person whose job it is at LNER to retype all the details into TOC forms / Passenger Assist. We're not playing that game, the rail industry needs to get its **** together and join the 21st century.

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

There's no API or system for this that we would be able to use - so as much as we'd like to, we can't. I believe I heard recently from RDG that it might be possible by the end of 2024.

Doncaster to Selby Hull Trains e-ticket(or not)

What's the relevance of LNER's tickets to this thread though (only than demonstrating that LNER know how to use RCS and are pretty consistent at enabling their tickets?) On this flow we have: Hull Trains, an Advance Single routed "Only valid on booked Hull Trains services" - E-Ticketable. Hull...

Doncaster to Selby Hull Trains e-ticket(or not)

I dunno, given there are about 107 other tickets type/route combinations on the same flow that are E-Ticketable including a mixture of those fare-set by LNER and Hull Trains, I'd characterise it as pretty weird and inconsistent.
