Derby Telegraph "Plans to convert Monsal Trail back into railway takes 'significant step forward'"

I look forward to reading how they plan to get round the tunnels on the new Monsal Trail when the current trail is ripped up. Oh look, is that a flying pig I see dropping countless sacks of money? ;) So let's get this straight, someone with a lot of money wants to turn the popular...

How long do GWR appeals take

The barriers at Reading were wide open (at least the set alongside the stairs from the overbridge) at 19:45 yesterday, so it was possible they were open at 17:00 if there was a staff shortage

    Polesworth

Polesworth is one of those stations which I feel could benefit from the station being served by more trains. After-all, it is a sizeable village, not one of those zombie stations in the middle of nowhere serving a handful of houses (Shippea Hill) Good luck with the visit, although seems to be...

How difficult is it to arrive or leave at all timetabled platforms. 5 year project to achieve this.

A good little trip to Kent Rover land, even with the issues at Sturry

How difficult is it to arrive or leave at all timetabled platforms. 5 year project to achieve this.

You passed me when sitting on the charter on the up fast in Millbrook (forcing you to use the slow line) ;) (waiting for a late running GWR from Portsmouth to go ahead). Ouchie with the points failing at Southcote junction as well, doesn't help that passengers will tend to use the diverted...

    Accommodation suggestions and reviews

I didn't see any references to Best Western on the hotel when I passed nor when I noticed it when searching for my usual Crewe shared house in August time.

    Scotrail Guards Dispute

And what's the difference this time between Glasgow to East Kilbride & Barrhead compared to the Whifflet, Paisley Canal & Cumbernauld* lines which switched to the Strathclyde Manning Agreement style DOO with ticket examiners when those lines got wired up? (*Motherwell to Cumbernauld plus the...

    Accommodation suggestions and reviews

Something, which might be of interest to some, is that the former Best Western hotel outside Crewe station (Crewe Arms) has reopened to the public.

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

Agreed there, even if they run it as an additional service between Holyhead & Crewe with a similar calling pattern to an Avanti service. Would help soak up crowds for when it gets a bit hot and every man & his dog from the Wirral ends up wanting to visit Rhyl or Llandudno. Anything is better...

    2024 New Haulages

All the luck in the raffle. The gentleman on my table opposite me won some old OS maps as some of the donated prizes are random.

    Budget hotels discussion

In my experience some Travelodges are better than others (ie those in older buildings with tiny windows which barely open meaning the room is like an oven in summer). Likewise same with the Premier Inns, some are better than others. Both cases I find the breakfast options can be overpriced...

2024 Local, Mayoral and PCC Elections

... Which might have been mentioned by less than 1% of voters who cared for HS2 and getting places slightly quicker for more money. Most wouldn't care as they jump into their cars if they wanted to visit Manchester. History will tell if any of those new mayors make any positive impacts, or...

    2024 New Haulages

4/5: 59101 59104 59202 Plus some decent mileage from 73136 as I all I had previously was the short distance between Kensington Olympia & Acton area on the overnight leg of the GBRf 21 tour. I wonder if I passed Mr Roebuck without knowing it was him.

2024 Local, Mayoral and PCC Elections

.. Ah well, 4 more years of Khan and his attempts to run London. Pay by mile and hotel tax announcements by the end of the month? Some turnouts seem to be quite poor throughout this election, shows that most people (two thirds+) can't be bothered to vote between eating poo and drinking vomit...

    Kite goes Exploring, Trip Reports

I've done all the sleeper modified 92s & need one of the 73s (967). So more odds on getting something required on the Highlander. Personally I preferred the seat on the 156, the 153 was a bit too soft (like the cushion had collapsed, similar to some of the old northern 158 seats before they got...
