Thanks for your reply and info.
As mentioned I occasionally travel this route and the ability to use a (day) return ticket Bramhall to Macclesfield on the fast Stockport to Macclesfield trains outweighs the small cost saving of using a couple of (railcard) Northern advances between Stockport...
I’ve used the pass on every operator between Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly, had it checked and scanned and never had a problem, so would presume it’s valid on all ToC’s .
I’ve checked the T & C’s on the TFGM website, but unsurprisingly it makes no reference to through journey...
I travel occasionally from Macclesfield to Stockport, usually using the Northern Advances. If I bought a Macclesfield to Bramhall return (Bramhall is the limit of the TFGM rail/bus pass), would I be able to travel on the (faster) Cross Country and Avanti services ? (even though they obviously...
My son is travelling back to Hull tomorrow but must go via york arrival no later than 0830-40 for an all day conference. He has the return part of an off peak return from Hull to Gatley (£47). The gty to hul off peak appears no to be valid for the early start at gty. Is it possible to excess...
Two advances, split at Birmingham New Street ? Derby-Birmingham on the 0727 is £15.30 arr bhm at 0808 and a bhm-Pwllheli advance on the 0825 is £18.50 and arrives Pwllheli at 1316. There may be cheaper options, this was just a quick check. Nice scenic run after Newtown and Caersws

I contacted Northern Rail Customer Services to complain about the lack of knowledge of rail ticketing exhibited by the guard on the train I travelled on - I was assured by Northern that the guard was in error and ticket was indeed valid for onward travel to Crewe...
Are there any temporary easements to allow Stockport to Crewe ticket holders to travel via Kidsgrove or Stoke to Crewe ? or even Stockport to Manchester Oxford road (to pick up the ATW) - or would I have to buy two new tickets ? Can't find any reference to this - only that there are replacement...
Many thanks for the replies, I did think I was in the right after reading a few threads along similar lines, but assumed that the guard knew better as he must have been trained up for the job. I'm now happy to use the return back to Crewe, hopefully without any problems.
Thanks for the reply - yes Bredbury is on the Sheffield to Manchester Piccadilly line, I was on the Northern Rail all stations stopper. The route to Crewe means going into Manchester and then out to Crewe - there is a possible alternative - at least for the out part of the trip - of changing...
Good Afternoon All - First Post :-)
Travelled out from Crewe to Hope last Friday (22/1) and was travelling back today via Bredbury where I intended to break my journey for a few days to spend some time with relatives. After I boarded the 1140 at Hope I told the guard this and presented...
